If You Don't Control Time, It Will Control You. Help- I Need More Time – Part 2
Well, how did you do this week with the stuff we shared last week?
Did you start having more time?
Did you start to enjoy life more?
Did you implement one of the things we discussed?
Or did you just read the article, think it was nice, interesting, OK, but then continued where you were.
Welcome to this weeks article as we look at a few more answers and solutions you can implement to help you do better with time management. But we get deeper into "you" this week. You see time management is always about you and how you do it. Open your eyes and understand that if you don't get time under control, it will control you.
1. The Clock is my dictator, I shall not rest.
It makes me lie down only when exhausted.
It leads me into deep depression
It hounds my soul
It leads me in circles of frenzy, for activities sake
Even though I run frantically from task to task, I will never get it all done
For my ideal is with me
Deadlines and my need for approval drown me
They demand performance from me, beyond the limits of my schedule
They anoint my head with migraines
My in basket overflows
Surely fatigue and time pressures shall follow me all the days of my life
And I will dwell in the bands of frustration forever

It is not about the clock, it is about you and all of those you care about. If this simple little poem is you, then maybe you need to stop and reevaluate you use of time. You need to slow down and think about time and how you can gain control of it and of your life.
If you want more time, then start taking control of your time. Take some time to manage your life, your tasks and your schedule. You are not to busy to stop and take the time.
2. "Resist the temptation to clear up small things first" - Brian Tracy in "Eat That Frog"
We always have a dozen or more little things to do that seem to drive us crazy. Yet it is a simple fact that doing them will not get us where we want to be. Yes, they will have to be done. Yes, you will have to find a way to do them. Yes, they need to be done. But first you must stay focused on the highest payback items, the most important things and get them done. The things that create the greatest success.
If you want more time, do the things that will create the greatest success, period.
3. From the 4-Hour Work Week, "Lack of time is actually lack of priories".
In other words, you always have time to get done the things you really have to get done. Because they have a very high priority in your day. Now ask yourself, how do you make sure the "have to get done" things, are the right things? How do you make sure you have the right priorities in place? We have been through this over and over again in my writing. Make sure you are spending your time, right now, doing the most important things you need to be doing, period. Now.
If you want more time, spend more time doing the most important things you need to do. It will work out.
4. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom - Psalm 90:12
We need to live wisely and well. Simply fact is, it is not how long one lives that counts, but how you live. Are you spending your time on the right things. This question should be very clear for you. Start spending your time on the right things.
If you want more time, spend more time doing the right things and watch what happens.
5. Here is a great little story again from the 4-Hour Work Week.(great read). "John, I'd love to talk about the gaping void I feel in my life, the hopelessness that hits me like a punch in the eye every time I start my computer in the morning, but I have so much work to do. I've got at least 3 hours of unimportant emails to reply to before calling the prospects who said no yesterday. Gotta run."
Unimportant email is one of the things that drives us all crazy. Yes, email has made life good and given us a great tool to get things done better and quicker. That is, if we us it the right way. But if you are spending your time looking at unimportant email and getting "sucked in", then you are not using the tool correctly.
If you want more time, then learn to dump 90% of the email that you look at. Simply put, you will gain at least 1 hour every day, 5 hours a week, 250 hours a year. That is over 6 weeks. Vacation anyone?
6. How can we use our time wisely
A. See each day as a gift from God
B. Commit your time to God
C. Set aside time for God and for others
D. Take time for your own needs.
All you have to do is spend a little time visiting people in the hospital to understand how lucky you are and how each day you have is a gift. Just go to a cardiac unit of any major hospital and see people who where not taking time for themselves. They have to take time now? Don't wait to be forced to take the time that you should be taking right now. Exercise anyone?
If you want more time, take time for your own needs, before you are forced to.
7. "Part of our problem in society is most people are trying to do so much they can't do any of it right. Slow down, think seriously about what you are doing and ask yourself if you are doing any of it with your whole heart. Are you giving it your best". Joyce Meyer - "I Dare You"
Take a moment out of your busy day and ask this question. Am I moving to fast? Am I doing this just because I need to be doing? Is my heart in any of this anymore? Am I doing my best, or am I just doing, doing, doing?
If you want more time, start doing your best at all you do. The rest will wait, if you do you best at what you do.
I leave you with this thought, "tomorrow may never come, what am I doing today".
