Article Overview: A level players want to work with other A level players. It makes them better, stronger and even more productive. So, the question is how much time and energy and effort do we spend trying to make B level players into A level players? How much success have we had? Only A Level Players Need Apply
What would happen to us and our
organizations if we had all “A” level players in it? Would it
make a difference? Would it it create greater outcomes? Would it
get us where we really want to be? Would it create an outstanding
organization?
How much time, effort and energy do we
spend on trying to build our organization with “B” or worse “C”
level players. When we take an honest look at out companies, what do
we see?
Reading Steve Jobs biography recently I
got one real impact point. “B” level players tend to bring in
other “B” level players or worse, “C” level players. They do
not bring in “A” level players.
“A” level players want to work with
other “A” level players. It makes them better, stronger and even
more productive.
So, the question is how much time and
energy and effort do we spend trying to make “B” level players
into “A” level players? How much success have we had?
How about instead today we make a
commitment to go out and start finding and bringing in“A” level
players.
I see so many entrepreneurs and
executives frustrated because they cannot get their people to move,
and operate the way they want them to. They cannot move them to
operate at the level they want.
The real problem, the real sad point it
that most of us accept it.
Is it time that we ask ourselves, what
is wrong with this picture? Why do I accept anything less than what
I want? Why do I lower my standards?
The answer is not that there are no
good people out there, they are out there. But we have to work hard
to get them. I agree the competition is tough. But why do we accept
anything less.
Most of us believe in giving people the
opportunity to show and demonstrate all they can do.
To train them.
To offer them everything we can to help
them become better and stronger and more productive.
But, when they still don't step up,
what do we do?
I have and always will expect a great
deal from the people who work for me. I expect them to work as hard
or harder than I do. I expect them to step up. If they do not,
don't expect me to accept it.
Yet most of us do accept it and just
keep on trying to make it work.
Why?
How many more chances and opportunity
will you give someone?
How long can you keep accepting “B”
level performance and wonder why you don't have a “A” level
organization.
So whether you like Steve Jobs or not,
one key point you have to take with you.
Apple is an “A” level organization,
made of “A” level players, producing “A” level products.
Where do you want to be?
If we want to be an “A” level
organization, then we have to start today going after and bringing in
“A” level players.
Start today to raise you exceptions and
accept nothing less.
