Practice no matter how good you think you are
“If you are preparing today, chances
are you will not be repairing tomorrow”.
John Maxwell in his book, “Talent is
Never Enough”.
How much time do we spend repairing
because we did not prepare enough?
How many times do we kick our self
after the fact because we just let it slide and did not put the
preparation into it that we knew we should.
Why do we do that?
Think about why some people never soar.
Truth be know, it is not because they
are unable, we are all able to soar.
It is simply because they do not
prepare to soar.
What about you
Content just to drift along?
Or are you ready to soar?
Are you ready to be the star?
Are you ready to make it happen?
Ask yourself, “am I content to be
always in reactive mode, like the silver ball in the pinball machine.
Bouncing from one bumper to the next.
From one flipper to the other.
Or am I ready to start being reactive
and really making things happen in my life?”
Abraham Lincoln said, “If I had 8
hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend 6 hours sharpening my ax”.
How sharp is your ax?
Wonder why it just is not working out?
If you are in sales, it should be a
rare occasion when there is a question you cannot answer, an
objection you did anticipate, or an issue you don't know how to
handle.
Preparation means just that, being
prepared, knowing what is coming and already having the answer.
If you are looking for a job, the same
thing applies in the interview process. It should be a rare occasion
when there is a question you do not already know the answer to and
that you have not prepared to answer.
Sharpening your saw in these cases is
not much different from sharping your saw to cut word.
In sales you make a list of all the
objections, questions and issues that could come up.
You work with others in defining even
more. You work with others yet until you know you have them all.
Then you write each one on a 3x5 index
card on one side.
Then you find the answer and write it
on the back of the card.
Then you work and work and work at
memorizing and putting it all into you head.
Making it part of you.
Knowing it cold.
Having a very sharp saw.
What do you think will happen when you
sit in a sales or interview situation? You will be outstanding. That
is what will happen. Plain and simple, outstanding.
You will impress the other person
because not just do you come up with the answer. You are quick on
your feet, sharp in your delivery and confident in your speech.
Try it and see what happens.
Not getting the deals you should?
Not getting the job you want?
Not getting the approvals you need?
Perhaps your saw is dull?
Sharpen it and watch what happens.
