Team Work Makes it Happen – Part I

Team work makes it happen. That is the plain and simply truth. Buy it, and watch what happens. Fight it, and watch what happens.

Today I want to borrow from two great authors on this subject, John Maxwell from his book– Talent is Never Enough and C. Gene Wilkes from his book– Jesus on Leadership.

Today we begin to explore team work.

We start with the simple principle that “one” is too small a number to achieve greatness.

If you really want to do anything of value – you need a team.

As John Maxwell says, “Team work makes the dream work.”

Our first principle today comes from John's book. “Teamwork divides the effort and multiplies the effect.”

Understand?

Divides the effort, multiplies the effect. Amazing what that will do.

Many entrepreneurs and independent sales people have a great tendency to think they can and they have to do it all. The result is they drive themselves crazy. But understand that is not limited to entrepreneurs and sales people – it is happening all over the corporate world as well.

Question for you: What if you could work less and get better results? - Would you be interested?

From C. Gene Wilkes book -Jesus on Leadership we pick up these 5 keys:

1. “Teams involve more people, thus affording more resources, ideas and energy than an individual process.”

Yes you can build a team even if you are a solopreneur.

You build teams not just inside but out outside as well. Not just with employees, but with vendors, customers, consultants, partners and others.

Masterminds are teams, and something you should be involved with. It can become an important piece of your team (see last weeks article for more on masterminds).

You need to get others involved, plain and simple it creates greater results.

2. “Teams will maximize your potential, strengths.

Minimize your weaknesses.”

You need to find those who can do what you don't do well. This way you can do what you do well.

Even some of the stuff you do well, if you can find others who do it better, unload it.

Stop spending you time doing what you suck at.

Do the 1-2 things you excel at and give the rest to someone else.

Just watch what happens.

3. “Teams give you multiple perspectives on how to make it happen.”

Listen to what others can add as input.

You are only so deep.

Each person you add, adds exponentially to the process.

You still have to make the ultimate decision.

But your options and possibility go up exponentially.

4. “Teams keep you accountable for the goal.”

The goal becomes the goal of all of you.

Accountability is one of the major things I do as a coach.

If you are holding each other accountable, just watch what happens.

5. “Teams can simply do more than you can.”

Many think they can do it all.

That is why many are working independent.

But you still need the team.

Added benefit – the team helps you keep your sanity.

Remember Jesus had 12 disciples to help Him do his job.

Moses tried to do it all and was going crazy. Then his father-in-law told him to build a team. And it worked.

You can't do it all by yourself, no one can.

Today begin to build your team.

Re: Anyone Uses Elance.com? Guru.com? Rentacoder.com? Re: Anyone Uses Elance.com? Guru.com? Rentacoder.com? - I've had quite a bit of success on oDesk.com. I've never used Elance so I can't compare. I like oDesk.com 'cos I get to sort thru people (e.g. within a certain bid range) with a single click. I find their help response very quick and I like the oDesk Team software that "providers" must install. This gives me the Buyer more insight as to what I am paying for. The Team software takes screenshots of the Providers screen on 10 min increments so I can see that the person is infact doing work for me.
Private Venture Capital Consortiums and Funding Syndicates Private Venture Capital Consortiums and Funding Syndicates - From the posts in this forum (all threads) it is very clear that funding is in high demand and many entrepreneurs are unsuccessful in sourcing, not to mention secure, private international venture capital. There are about 6000 international associations linked to venture capital around the globe and they all make their presence noticed on the internet. For most entrepreneurs this will sound very attractive, and it should be, but many unfortunately will stare disappointment in the face at the start of their endevours. The international success rate for venture capital finance / funding in start up projects is an unbelieveable low 2% - 5% maximum. Most venture capitalist linked with associations will require some sort of surity or guarantee of up to 50% of the investment. The entrepreneur will then have to pay fees up front before a cent has been invested, not to mention broker / consultant commissions of up to 12% of the total value of the project. Why is the success rate so low (2% - 5%)? - 1. Business Plan - poor preparation and insufficient information. Every entrepreneur will explain how big a specific market is in potential profits but they all lack the basic important factor every investor wants to see and that is How and What are you going to do to capture 10% of that market sector. Stop telling every investor that you "want" to capture 10%, tell them how you will go about doing so. 2. Management Team - How can anyone expect from an investor to invest in a company with poor management. How about investing $5 million in a one man operation - where is the security for the venture capitalist. Be realistic, put yourself in the position of the investor, argue the facts and then approach an investor if you are able to convince them of your project or business. 3. Project - If your project or business (products or service) is not unique or cheaper venture capitalists will not invest - final. If it is existing technologies, products or services improve them or make them cheaper. Entrepreneurs should always research venture capitalist befire approaching them - it is the difference between success anf failure Always Remember - Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan. ----------------

Re: Stopping Drive-by Spam Re: Stopping Drive-by Spam - I've also noticed that in this and other forums. I wonder why they do it that way. Makes it easier to catch them. I suppose it's probably just laziness. I've even seen the same person spam the same thread multiple times one after another with the exact same post. I guess that just how stupid some of these spammers are!!!
