One day I am meeting a few friends for lunch at a restaurant and we are trying to have a normal conversation. A couple a tables away a loud group is having lunch, being rude to the waitress and just plain making loud noise. When they get up, they are wearing uniforms, XYZ lawn care. Guess whose lawn they are not going to take care of.
What about you – do you have trucks, vans, employees, and other things that have signs on about your company. Have you taken the time to teach your employees that they represent your company and that they are expected to behave in a certain way?
What would happen if we turned it around and used this to help generate business instead of pushing business away?
What if your van let people in line when there was a back up on the freeway. What if they waved and smiled. What if they held the door for you, or tipped well, or just treated people so much different – better. Do you think it might be a great way to get some more business.
You spend a great deal of money on your vans to letter them, to advertise on them, you pay larger insurance premiums. Shouldn’t all the money be generating some additional revenue?
I know, not everyone of you agree – but then I am an ex-Marine and we were taught that when in the uniform, this is how you behave.
Teach your people that when they drive your company vehicles, they need to always imagine that you are sitting right next to them. How about if a person calls in and says they saw your van, number 123, and that they want to do business with you. Reward your drivers.
Remember, if you put your name on anything, you better make sure that those that wear, drive, or use that product know they represent you and your company.
