As an entrepreneur our businesses are an extension of us, our passion, self belief and our unique personality makes our business what it is today.
If you are an established business with employees then your company culture is a bi-product of yourself. As all business owners should be aware of is that company culture aids productivity, growth and revenue. If you have just started your business then be aware of the impact you directly have on the level of success your business achieves.
So if like me; you live and breathe for your businesses and aim to make them as successful and as profitable as possible then you need to continue to breath life into your business, you need to be healthy, strong, adaptable and full of vitality to ensure you and your business not only survives but succeeds. It is also very important that you are still fit and healthy to enjoy the wealth generated by your hard work.
If you are stressed out, working all hours and on the verge of mental and physical burnout, your general health and wellbeing is certainly going to be effected. Therefore in direct correlation it is likely your business is also suffering from ill health. This might not initially be detectable, but if left will slowly filter through to your workforce and in the long term affect the quality and productivity of the work being done. Stress can disrupt our own personal ability to make sound decisions, logical judgments and lower our immune system i.e. breakdown our resistance to infection and disease. In a similar vein your business will be less adaptable to change, weak to competitor’s advancements and experience a reduced capability to foresee opportunities and deliver them effectively.
So consider the following two points carefully.
There is a direct relationship between your physical and mental health and the health of your business Your staff are the life blood of your company ensuring all organs (departments) are working to optimum health.
In this case there is no excuse for you to ignore your health and wellbeing. Investing time and money in relaxation, fitness and diet will increase your immune system, alertness and motivation and in effect strengthen your business immune system and increase results.
My advice to you, is take an invested interest in all aspects of your health pay professionals, who can advise on key areas such as nutrition, relaxation, stress and time management, personal trainers and holistic therapists. Schedule all these events into your diary in advance, make them as much a priority as a new client meeting. Really organise your time and focus on the end result. What are you aiming to achieve from having a healthy and balanced lifestyle?
I often find my best solutions to difficult problems pop into my head when I am relaxing in a hot bubbly bath. I also find exercise such as cycling and swimming excellent to burn off stresses and frustrations of the day, calm the mind and give me a new lease of life. Jot down any sports that you used to enjoy or something that you have always been interested in trying and this can be anything from rugby, badminton scuba diving or salsa to name but a few.
Over the next few months I will write a series of articles associated with achieving your business/life balance and specifically about way’s you can improve your health and wellbeing.
