Self esteem Workout
I am sharing some useful coaching tips and support from my monthly newsletter 'Coaching at Your Fingertips', today tips on how to boost your self-esteem. Self- esteem is about how we view our intelligence, physical ability and our emotional capabilities. Really anything that has the potential to make us feel adequate or inadequate in relation to others.
1. Say positive things about yourself (this mean’s outspoken or personal thoughts) – If people speak negatively about themselves and continually bring themselves down it doesn’t take long for others to agree with them.
a. Replace I can’t with I’ll do the best I can
b. Replace I’m never any good at with I am getting better at…..
c. Replace I always mess things up with I always learn from my mistakes.
When you say positive things about yourself it increases your self respect and therefore increases your self-esteem.
Over the next couple of weeks keep a note of all the negative things you say about yourself and the situation/context which initiated the comments.
Then review the diary and ask yourself is this a fair statement about myself? Would I like other people to think of me in this way? Think about what advice you would give to your best friend who had just found out that someone else had been belittling and saying nasty things about them. Now apply these comforting words to yourself – it is important to be your own best friend not your world’s worst enemy.
