I’ve often been asked how I market my business so people can find me. The key for me was first getting clear on what value I provide, what I love to do, identifying my unique talents, and finding the language to articulate what I do to a listening audience. I’m still refining my message because I’m personally evolving and so is my business.
I keep my focus on five marketing strategies:
1. Attitude. Do you have a success or failure mindset? What you believe is what you attract. Are you upbeat, warm and engaging? Are you curious to learn about people?
2. Have you identified your ideal clients? Where are they and how are they going to find you? How do you find them online and offline?
3. What distinguishes you from others within your market? What makes you stand out above the rest? (your brand, or unique value proposition). How effective are you in communicating the value you provide to others? In other words, the benefits to THEM?
4. How do you stay fresh in people’s minds without turning them off? Newsletters, ezines, articles, creating and selling products, and blogging are ways to offer high value content to an eager audience.
5. Build your database. Look for opportunities to meet people and increase your visibility. Joint venture partnerships, networking events, leading teleseminars/workshops, being a guest expert on radio and TV shows, public speaking are all ways to expand your email list and become known. (I participated in a recent book launch and added 15oo subscribers to my email list).
The most important point I want to make about marketing is to be yourself whenever you are applying any marketing strategy. Take the best from whatever resource you find and leave the rest so that your efforts are always in line with what feels right for you.
Before people buy anything you might be saying or selling, they first buy YOU. You either connect with folks or you don’t. Let go of trying to impress people with slick and catchy phrases.
Instead, seek to make heart connections with people by being real and authentic. When you meet new people, talk to them as friends and look for ways to be of help to them. Become a giver rather than a taker.
When you come from the heart with the intention of being of service to others, you become memorable. Being known as someone who is generous, genuinely cares about people AND has a quality product or service is a winning combination. The Law of Attraction!
