What Makes You Fabulous, Lovable, Wonderfull…..?
On a coaching call last week I asked a client, “What do you love about yourself?” She was beating herself up about how she handled something that she was judging as not being good enough. When I asked her the question, there was dead silence. I waited. A minute or so later, she told me something she does well for others. Ok, fine. Acknowledging a skill she likes (I didn’t sense the love!) that relates to doing something for others did answer my question.
I invited her to respond by also recognizing a quality, strength or gift about herself that she was proud of. One she was willing to own. Something that brought up a feeling of self-love.
She was struggling at what to say so she asked me the same question. When she heard my answer, she was quiet again before she came up with something nice to say about who she is.
If asked the questions: ”What do your love about yourself? What makes you fabulous and lovable?”
What would you answer?
A few days later I was having a conversation with a friend about a piece of unworthiness I have been working with for a while. (In case you might be thinking I have all my stuff together, I don’t!).
I find fear and unworthiness are two main issues that powerfully affect self-confidence and self-esteem. How we feel about ourselves affects every aspect of our lives: business success, relationships, happiness, health & wellness…. get the picture why becoming self-aware is so vital to having what you want?
When we lack feelings of self-worth and self-love, we don’t allow ourselves to receive the good that is being offered to us in so many ways. Ouch!
So, my friend asked me to do two things:
1. Email my close friends and colleagues with a request for feedback. Guess what the questions were? LOL. I asked them to answer the questions, “Why do you love me or what do you love about me?”
Asking the questions wasn’t about pumping up my ego and strutting like a peacock about how great I am. I really wanted to hear how people saw and experienced me so that I could take their love into my heart.
I sent the email to 7 close friends who responded immediately. I was blown away by what they wrote. I admit that I haven’t been able to take all their words into my heart. I have some more work to do. I combined all the emails into a Word document and printed it out so I can continue to read it and allow their loving responses to break through some of the blockages to my heart.
2. I was asked to write down what I love about myself. I had no difficulty writing answers to that question. I noticed I had very little emotion attached to the things I listed so there might be something there I need to uncover. Oh yeah.
Here are three things I love about myself to get you thinking if you’re going blank:
1. I’m a high-integrity person. I take responsibility for what I think, feel and do. I own my stuff. If I make a mistake, need to confront a situation, apologize and make amends, you can count on me doing it.
2. My intuition and instincts are highly developed. That helps me to get to the heart of things quickly. I know when the wisdom of my spirit is coming through to guide me.
3. I have a kind and compassionate heart. People naturally open up to me and feel my spirit.
What would you write?
If you saw my article post on Treasure Mapping and clicked on the link to my picture, you know that I have some large dreams and desires for 2008. Do you? Being authentic and real is key to manifesting what I (you) want so this exercise was right on the money!
Here’s my challenge to you.
Repeat my exercise. Give yourself the gift of feeling and receiving love - from yourself and the people who are crazy about you.
