Balancing Basics for Busy Women

As women, we often attempt to do everything on our own. It seems quicker and less hassle to just do it ourselves. In this way, we are sometimes our own worst enemy. We need help. We need support. It is OK to give up control and ask for it.

Develop Support

We need a support system to have true balance in our lives. No matter how organized, independent or self sufficient we are, everyone needs someone. This applies to home, to work, or with friends. We can get through anything if we have a support system to hold us up when we are down.

Nurture your relationships with friends, family and co-workers. Healthy relationships don’t just happen. You need to spend time on them, whether they are personal or professional. Make time for the people in your life. Our greatest moments come from relationships.

So, when you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Or when they offer to help, let them.

Put your Life in Perspective

We all have the ability to see the glass as half empty or half full. What half are you in? For many, we have days in both halves of the glass. For others, they spend the majority of their lives being half empty. They complain and whine constantly. Your perception of daily events has a direct impact on your ability to manage stress. Obviously, stress affects your ability to feel balanced. Attitude plays a huge role in your quality of life. Have you ever heard of the formula E+R=O? It means Event + Reaction = Outcome. So, in other words, your reaction will determine if something is stressful or not. We have more control over our lives and circumstances than we like to think.

So, as you go about your day and you feel a negative reaction coming on, remember these two phrases…What you focus on expands and negativity breeds negativity. Then ask yourself…Is my glass half full or half empty right now?

Fun

Last but not least, make sure you put some fun into your life. I am amazed at how many people don’t have fun in their daily routine. I am not only talking about weekend and vacation fun, but fun as part of your day. A sense of humor is so key in reducing stress and you need to be able to laugh at yourself. We can take life so seriously that we forget to enjoy the moment. Spend time with people who make you laugh, take part in activities with your kids, go for coffee with a co-worker who is fun to be around. Steer clear of the complainers and the perfectionists.

Balance is not just a concept, it is a choice. A choice that is yours to make on a daily basis.

Women are also very cautious, unlike men who take any risk, a woman will analyze the risk first. Women are also go getter when it comes to business, once they make their mind, then they go for it.
