Finding Time To Do It All.
Finding Time To Do It All.
There are not enough hours in the day. Where has the time gone? How can I possibly get everything done?
Any of these sound familiar to you? Well, I know they sound pretty familiar to me and also to the clients I have worked with.
Time is a mystery to many. Why can some people get so much accomplished and others so little?
The truth is, we all have the same amount of time in our day. The difference is whether we are wasting our time or using it efficiently. Our day can be full of time wasters. The trick is to identify what they are for you and look at eliminating them.
So take on the time challenge with me and see what can happen with your life when you begin to eliminate the things that suck up your most precious commodity, your time.
The time waster I want to share today is very common in our daily lives.
Procrastination. Yes, the big P word that many of us are so good at. Procrastination is a big time waster and energy drain. The energy it takes for us to continually think of what we need to do but don’t want to do, can be exhausting. Sometimes all it takes is to get a start on what needs to be done. Consider committing only 15 minutes to a project that you’ve been putting off. For example, the closet that is overflowing or the garage you can’t get into. It is often the thought of it more than actually doing it that causes the avoidance. So apply the 15 minute rule( a trick I learned from The Fly Lady) to any project you are putting off. You will be amazed at what you can get done in 15 minutes. After that session, decide on another time that you will commit to and do the same thing again. When you start using 15 minutes segments you will be amazed at the projects you can complete using this method.
When you begin the task, set a timer and if you feel like continuing past 15 minutes, go for it. If not, wait for the next session. You can make it more enjoyable by playing some music or listening to an inspirational CD.
Your action step this week is to pick a task that you have been avoiding and apply the 15 minute experiment. If it goes well, continue throughout the week with these segments and see how much you can accomplish. I would love to hear if you used this method and what you were able to get done this week. Here’s to taking back your time!
