Are you scared to change?

When I meet my clients for the first time, the majority of people actually know deep down what they SHOULD be doing, but they are not moving forward due to fear of what COULD happen. We often fear the worst if we change a habit or behavour fearing that other people won't like it or that we won't be able to handle the outcome. In addition, I often hear people say that they tried to do something different, but then were over come with guilt or a feeling of uncomfortable so they reverted back to the old behaviour again as it just felt easier!

When we change a behaviour,it is going to feel uncomfortable. This is not because it is wrong to do it, it is simply down to the fact that whenever we try something new, then it is always going to feel different or uncomfortable. Many of us build up the courage to do something different and then give up the moment it starts to feel uncomfortable. So what is this feeling - it is only fear! My advice would be to not fear feeling uncomfortable because it means things are changing for the better and you are releasing oldpatterns and negative behaviour. It is so normal to feel fear when things are different but don't back down at the last minute because you areunwilling to sit with thatuncomfortable feeling for awhile. Sit with it and praise yourself for doing something new!

For example - One of my clients had a friend in her life who was always asking her for money and despite promises, never paid it back in full.My clientcontinued tolend her friendmoney as she didn't want to hurt her by saying NO. After a coaching session with me, I explained that by accepting this behaviour, she was disrespecting herself and her hard earned cash. So, the next time her friend requested to borrow some cash, my client stood her ground and refusedher request. She felt good about it for a few hours, and then started to feel uncomfortable as this was a new behaviour for her! She started to worry that her friend wouoldn't speak to her anymore or that she was a bad friend. Due to this, she then called her friend up, offering to lend her even more money than she had requested!

So can you see how the uncomfortable feelings led her to back down and go back to the old behaviour with the result that my client later just felt angry with herself and resentful towards her friend?

So, I ask you to enjoy feeling uncomfortable, praise yourself for changing a habit and learn to sit with those uncomfortable for as long as it takes. Celebrate your new behaviourandyour willingness to change!

Are you afraid to really GROW? Are you afraid to really GROW? - Now i'm not generalizing here.. ok maybe a little. I've recently been noticing a very strange trend with small business owners. Many of the business owners i've met with recently are afraid to really grow. They want to make more money and they want to improve, but when it comes down to it, they are scared of what those changes may or may not mean to their business. This fascintates me. Isn't the whole reason we've chosen to start a business mean we eventually want it to grow? Are they scared it will move too fast and get out of control? I'm curious to other's thoughts on this.
Re: Starbucks: Licensing vs Joint-Venture Re: Starbucks: Licensing vs Joint-Venture - Its "growing pains" on a successful franchise level. If you think about it, could anyone have actually ever predicted Starbuck's most recent outcome? They are now struggling to do something they did so well all along, simply change, or at least alter what direction they were headed. No matter what your idea of where your business should be is, for the future, outside determining factors will most certainly change - its your ability to change and follow the natural business course (if there is one) that then becomes significant. Simply, have a good idea of what it is you want to be in business, but don't force out change along the way. Adapt to it, or at least try and learn to adapt to the change.
Re: Why Rebrand Your Business? Re: Why Rebrand Your Business? - Agree, agree. haven't been happy with AlertPay for some time, problems such as credit cards, more than 1 lost deposit Assumed an ownership change but I find it a big change to change the name. It will now have to compete with other startup payment gateways. To do so means they will retain a name link to AlertPay, so why rebrand?
Re: Would you pass on a media opportunity? Re: Would you pass on a media opportunity? - Hi Kevin, There is first think to everything, and you can never know how things end up. You may be scared and be a huge success, or you can be comfortable and mass things up. It is all about your attitude, the best thing is to say yes, smile, and think twice before you answer.
Re: "Diversity" Is Costing Us Dearly! Re: "Diversity" Is Costing Us Dearly! - Hi WendyGirl33, Thanks for this post. This is your 2nd post, not many have made such an impressive contribution to start with. Excellent. What can we say about this subject and be constructive. One thing is sure, nothing stays the same for ever. Trends change, fashions change, peoples perspective change etc. In fact we can never exhaust the continous changes that take place all around us. Many of the changes happen without us recognizing it until later; sometimes too late to stop it, if need be. PS, English is my second/third language. If you can write the above better, please do it an let me know. I want to learn to write better and better.
