How do I get past the feeling of being stuck in life or work?

Written by: Christiane Pohl

Article Overview: "I feel stuck." That's one of the most common things I hear from many people I talk to and work with. They feel stuck for many different reasons. They may be in a relationship that no longer is working, but don't know how to end it. They may not like the way they work or live, but aren't exactly sure how to change. Or they may just want to incorporate more fun in their lives, but aren't sure how to make that happen. And I have one single profound insight to share with them...and YOU -

How do I get past the feeling of being stuck in life or work?

“Keep doing what you’ve always done and you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got”.

That one phrase has stuck with me through the years. I have put it on the wall in my office and it has proved a reminder whenever I feel myself getting a little complacent. It keeps reminding me that If I am not getting the results I want it’s most likely because I’m “doing what I’ve always done”, yet expecting more than “what I’ve always gotten”. By “Doing” I also mean Thinking and Believing; often it is our beliefs about ourselves and about the world around us that keep us from getting unstuck.

Looking inside, questioning our self, our behavior, our belief system can be uncomfortable and that is why we often avoid it. Isn’t it so much easier to blame the outside world? We do not like to leave our comfort zone, even if we feel miserable in it. The misery we know seems safe at least.
However, for those of you who want more from your live and work, or who want to startup your first business, think about this phrase.

In my opinion in it lies the reason for many people never obtaining the level of happiness and success they want, or never taking that all important first step to do something that they always dreamed of. Are there areas in your life where you feel stuck? Are there certain patterns that follow you around and you would like to let go of?

Take this “How do I know that I am are stuck” test to find out:

Relationships with partners - You have not had one single intimate, happy relationship in the last 10 years that lasted more then 3 years/ you keep on blaming your partner, circumstances or live/ your are in a relationship that you are not happy in for more then 2 years/ you feel that there is nothing you can do to change that/ you think it’s your partner’s fault

Relationships general – You end up arguing or fighting with most people sooner or later/ you never have enough time for your friends/ you never feel quite happy with yourself/ you think that there is nothing you can do to change this/ you blame yourself and live

Career/work – you are in a job that you don’t like for more then 3 years/ you work in a way you don’t like for more then 2 years/ your work balance sucks/ you never have enough money to feel comfortable/ you feel that there is nothing you can do about it/ you blame circumstances

Health – you suffer from a chronic condition, feel miserable, you take medication and feel that is all you can do/ you suffer form recurring problems and do not take steps for prevention/ you refuse to research different ways to deal with your problem/ you think that there is nothing else you can do/ you feel helpless

If any of this applies to you and you would like to do something about it then let me help you. Yes, you can get unstuck. And it is much easier to do it together with someone who can support you and guide you on the HOW.

Getting outside your comfort zone, experimenting, trying new ways, questioning your old ways is something you will have to do often and consistently if you want to be an “entrepreneur of life”. In fact, if you are ever going to get “comfortable” with something in your life, make it being outside your comfort zone.

With my best wishes for your success!

Gratitude of being in a position to help and that what you do is actually going to make a difference is definitely enough to bring tears to your eyes. MichelleJ

Re: How to Stay Motivated Re: How to Stay Motivated - I think this topic is crucial because often, at least with me, if I'm feeling unmotivated I also feel frustrated. For me, the best way to deal with this is to take a step back and ask myself why I'm feeling this way? And when I'm frustrated I often retreat to the gym, where I can work it all out and surprisingly afterwards I feel calmer, reenergized and I'm able to confront the feelings. What about motivating others, how would you go about doing that?
No guru is an island No guru is an island - In life we always look toward some men to solve our problems for us. We always put men on higher pedestals than ourselves. If only we know that there are no gurus out there. If only we know that whatever any of the gurus achieve we can achieve it and do better then we would look inwards to get things done ourselves. If you will be able to pay the price they pay, you will get there. Have you not seen the protégé that surpass his/her mentor? They are important to help us achieve our goals, but we should never make them our tin gods. They can make mistakes. If we rate them higher than necessary we will never believe we can be better than them. I have learnt that the so called gurus got to where they are today through hard work and learning. If you can pay the same price they pay. You will get there as soon as possible. How many times the guru had been wrong? If J.K. Rowlings listened to the advise of the expert we will not have Harry Potter’s series today. The Chicken Soup for the Souls first edition was rejected 33 times. Bill Gates said “The Internet? We are not interested in it” in 1993. This shows that the gurus can be wrong. So no guru is an Island. You can achieve anything in life if you put your heart to it. There is no guru that is better than you. You have also what it takes to be another guru yourself. You have all it takes to succeed just like them. You are solely responsible for your life. Don’t blame anybody. Don’t blame the gurus. Don’t say they are not available to help you out. Don’t say they reject your offer to do JV with you. You are to take them from the pedestal you place them and take your life and destiny into your hand. Stop the blame game. Don’t blame anybody but yourself for your misfortune. Your life and destiny is in your own hand. No guru is an island. No guru has a monopoly of ideas and hindsight. The good thing about the age we live in is we have access to the information they use to make exploit. The gurus are even good and generous enough to teach people their secret. If you can duplicate what they do you will get to where they are. You will even do better, because you will not make the mistakes they had made in the past. It is now time for you to begin to believe in your own judgment. I have been advised by my mentor in the past and I knew inwardly that it will not work. I listen to the mentor against my judgment and I lost a lot of money. Now I know better than to trust my instincts when making decisions. This is what you should be doing. It is your life and the decision you make will only affect you not your mentor.
Re: Obama or Mcain will not change anything Re: Obama or Mcain will not change anything - I seriously hope I'm wrong, because I'm usually very positive about everything, but I have a BAD feeling that we're going to have to hit rock bottom before we can climb back to the top of this economical ladder. I think the US is blind to the fact that we are losing the war of economics. We owe so many other nations money (esp. China) that soon they will be able to take over everything and we won't have to worry about who WE want for president. We're posing PHYSICAL wars and not even realizing that we're getting stomped on MONETARILY. As I said, I hope I'm so wrong.......just got a strange feeling in me. Anyone else feeling it?
