How do I get past the feeling of being stuck in life or work?
“Keep doing what you’ve always done and you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got”.
That one phrase has stuck with me through the years. I have put it on the wall in my office and it has proved a reminder whenever I feel myself getting a little complacent. It keeps reminding me that If I am not getting the results I want it’s most likely because I’m “doing what I’ve always done”, yet expecting more than “what I’ve always gotten”. By “Doing” I also mean Thinking and Believing; often it is our beliefs about ourselves and about the world around us that keep us from getting unstuck.
Looking inside, questioning our self, our behavior, our belief system can be uncomfortable and that is why we often avoid it. Isn’t it so much easier to blame the outside world? We do not like to leave our comfort zone, even if we feel miserable in it. The misery we know seems safe at least.
However, for those of you who want more from your live and work, or who want to startup your first business, think about this phrase.
In my opinion in it lies the reason for many people never obtaining the level of happiness and success they want, or never taking that all important first step to do something that they always dreamed of. Are there areas in your life where you feel stuck? Are there certain patterns that follow you around and you would like to let go of?
Take this “How do I know that I am are stuck” test to find out:
Relationships with partners - You have not had one single intimate, happy relationship in the last 10 years that lasted more then 3 years/ you keep on blaming your partner, circumstances or live/ your are in a relationship that you are not happy in for more then 2 years/ you feel that there is nothing you can do to change that/ you think it’s your partner’s fault
Relationships general – You end up arguing or fighting with most people sooner or later/ you never have enough time for your friends/ you never feel quite happy with yourself/ you think that there is nothing you can do to change this/ you blame yourself and live
Career/work – you are in a job that you don’t like for more then 3 years/ you work in a way you don’t like for more then 2 years/ your work balance sucks/ you never have enough money to feel comfortable/ you feel that there is nothing you can do about it/ you blame circumstances
Health – you suffer from a chronic condition, feel miserable, you take medication and feel that is all you can do/ you suffer form recurring problems and do not take steps for prevention/ you refuse to research different ways to deal with your problem/ you think that there is nothing else you can do/ you feel helpless
If any of this applies to you and you would like to do something about it then let me help you. Yes, you can get unstuck. And it is much easier to do it together with someone who can support you and guide you on the HOW.
Getting outside your comfort zone, experimenting, trying new ways, questioning your old ways is something you will have to do often and consistently if you want to be an “entrepreneur of life”. In fact, if you are ever going to get “comfortable” with something in your life, make it being outside your comfort zone.
With my best wishes for your success!
