The Purpose of having a Vision

Vision, Mission, Purpose, the three supporting columns of every business and also of our life. For a long time I struggled with grasping what the difference was between Vision, Mission and Purpose and why they were so important. Then I suddenly realized that our Vision was giving direction to our Purpose. Here is why.

Your Vision is like your guiding light. Your Vision for a desired outcome, may it be for a relationship, work matter, social engagement, your business, your life; your Vision will dictate all the other steps that you must take. Your Vision will give substance to your mission and give form to your purpose.

Therefore let me start by giving you 2 examples of how Vision, Mission and Purpose could look:

Your Vision: To create an environmental friendly society.

Your Mission: (the actions you need to take): To ensure that your community will recycle within the next 2 years. To educate others, to educate yourself and to secure the resources (money, workforce, participants and sponsers) to accomplish your task in the given time frame.

Your Purpose: Doing it, being creative, acting on your Vision. Many may argue that the Purpose needs to be more defined, that it needs to have a practical application. And for your business that may be appropriate. However, ultimately our Purpose is to be, to do, to create.

It is our Vision for something that defines how we are, what we do and what we create. It is our Vision that is our instrument for change, for rising to the challenge, for living our purpose, our Purpose of being Alive.

Let me give you another example:

Your Vision: To create a stress free and violence free environment.

Your Mission: To educate yourself and others on how stress and violence can be reduced, to commit to communicating your knowledge, to commit to set an example by reducing violence and stress in your own life within the next 6 months.

Your Purpose: to do it, to be it, to create.

Vision is the key, the motivator, without having a Vision your energy and efforts will be chaotic and uncoordinated.

Once you have expressed your vision you will need to take these 4 important steps:

  1. You need to become committed to the cause.
  2. You need to allocate time and resources.
  3. You need to develop a plan and then follow through on it.
  4. You need to take ownership and become a leader.

What is important to you? What is your Vision for your Life, your Work? And if you need any help to become more clear on how to achieve what you want then give me a call or send me an email.

With my best wishes for your success,

Christiane Pohl

Re: Success Re: Success - I study success intently, and would like to share: Here's two excellent and nearly identical success-formulas from a couple of the world's masters. FIRST FORMULA: 1. Passionate Desire 2. Clear, Definite Purpose 3. Committed Decision 4. Take Action In Faith (Bonus Secret Sauce: 5. Repeat Consistently) I made a video about this, but am not allowed to link it yet. Google "Ryze Success Steps" for it. Oh, and this is Napoleon Hill's (Master Of Success Laws)'s Formula. SECOND FORMULA: 1. Passionate Desire 2. Understand It Is Already Done (Faith) 3. Relax & Allow It To Unfold (Go about your life calmly) This one is courtesy of Abraham-Hicks (inspiration for the movie The Secret). Hope that helps!
