Why Goals Are Important To Your Success
Why Goals Are Important To Your Success
Goals are the tools that you will use to build a new life. Like an architect you have created a vision. But an architect does not build a house. It takes hammers, saws, nails, wood and concrete and a step by step plan to construct the house. Your goals become the tools that will make your vision a realty.
Creating goals, writing them down and taking the action steps to accomplish them is critical to your self-improvement. Studies have shown that when we write down our goals we are more likely to accomplish them. People who have written goals are much more successful then those who do not have written goals.
Just to prove how important it is to have written goals a study was done years ago on the 1954 Harvard University graduating class. The study tracked these graduates over several decades. Now you would think anyone who graduated from a prestigious university like Harvard would automatically be successful. However what they found out was those who had written specific goals were much more successful than those who did not have written goals. A similar study was done on salespeople and the results were that those with goals earn three times the income, had more free time and were happier than those without goals.
So if you are serious about changing your life you need to have a set of specific goals, these goals need to be written down and reviewed daily. Each goal will have a set of detailed specific action steps that you will take. The action steps will put you on the right path to achieving your goals.
Now I know a lot of you are saying, "I don’t' have time for all this!" Well there's a funny thing about time. We all have the same amount of time, 24 hours a day, 168 hours a week, 672 hours in an average month and 8,064 hours in a year. If we live to be 75 we will have lived for 604,800 hours!
Now figuring we spend 10 hours a day at work, commuting to work and getting ready to go to work and say 8 hours sleeping that leaves about 6 hours of "free time" to do everything else. That being the case how is it some people seem to have more time that others? Have you ever heard the expression: "If you want something done give it to a busy person?" Why is it that busy people seem to get things done? What's the real difference between being successful and failure. Well some of it has to do with motivation, some of it has to do with having written goals and some of it has to do with managing time.
