A Plea to my Publisher

Sometimes life just happens. I have a book manuscript due on February 1st. In light of that looming date, I just sent this note to my publisher:

********************************************************

Wednesday I felt crappy. Thursday’s progression included apathy and nausea. Friday I added vomiting, intense pain and contemplated rejection of living. Friday night I was on the receiving end of an emergency appendectomy at our local hospital – although the use of the term “emergency” somehow belies the six-hour interim between walk-in and actual removal of the offending component. Saturday morning I was awakened to a fresh shave and three deep nicks, although those being discovered in an area significantly distant from my face.

I spent the weekend shuffling around our house a la Steve Urkel commando style, swatting at imaginary butterflies created by drug-induced hallucinations. Last night I sensed the volcanic rumblings of the workings of a compound designed to counter the hardening effects of pain killers capable of bringing down a bull moose. This morning I detect a tiny flow of blood once again finding its way to my brain, allowing me to faintly visualize the formation of alphabetic letters, however, the creative compilation of those letters into intelligible words is obviously still a non-reality.

Having now lost several precious pre-manuscript-submission days, I thus implore you, my thespian friend and publisher, with the follow quandary:

“To submit or not submit – that is the question:

Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer

The slings and arrows of unpolished manuscript seventeen days hence

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles

And by opposing incur the wrath of such same publisher

Yet by delay to transcend the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to.

To catch up on sleep – perchance to dream: ay, there’s the rub,

For in that sleep of death what dreams may come

To refine, polish and improve the final literary creation.

Thus while referenced document is very near perfection,

This mortal author is with this quandary acknowledging that in deference to

Above described human infirmity, one-half fortnight

May be beseeched from a omnipotent God and merciful publisher.”

**********************************************

While I typically use an illustrative photo, I have chosen not to include one on this post. I suspect any imagined visual is more descriptive and entertaining than reality could provide.
