Don’t get a job with benefits

Last Friday night the group attending Kent Julian’s Speak It Forward Bootcamp was gathered in his living room.

Participant Chad Jeffers shared an amazing short set on the dobro and then some of his personal story. Chad said years ago his dad, who is also in the music industry, told him: “If you want to make this music thing work, never get a job with benefits.”

Wow – how many of you had a dad who told you that? More common is a dad who begged you to forget about that “music thing” and to get a job with benefits. Today Chad is a writer, speaker and performer whose reputation has repeatedly opened doors with people like Kenny Loggins, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood. In fact, he has never auditioned for a position – rather he has been told over and over again, “______ says, YOU’RE THE GUY!

Legend has it that when Cortes landed in Mexico in the 1500s, he ordered his men to burn the ships that had brought them there to remove the possibility of doing anything other than going forward into the unknown. There’s something to be said about not having a safety net.

Thank you in advance![/quote:31y2csyt] A tough part of this is that different people have different needs. I used to work at a local hospital and we had great benefits, but there were a number of things I just never used. Is it possible to offer several different options? I'm thinking kind of like a cafeteria style insurance plan where you pick the benefits that you need. The initial planning would be a pain, but that way the employees would each be able to chose the benefits that fill their personal and/or family needs. You could also make a list of the sort of things you are thinking about and send out a survey to get thoughts from your people. See what they need and would respond to. Shri
Re: Who hates cold calling? Re: Who hates cold calling? - I saw this and had to chime in. I HATE COLD CALLS. lol its terrible and a wast of my time. Something i have done is gotten online and found all the networking event happening in my area for the next 2 months and i try and go to about 3 a week. Even just for an hour. Dont bring any business cards. Just meet new people ask them alot about what they do, not too much about what i do and follow up the next day or 2. Has worked well
