“…So you’re sayin’ there’s a chance?”

Okay, my tastes in movies are not very refined – I like funny and happy. Remember that great scene in Dumb and Dumber where Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels) have driven across the country to reconnect with Lloyd’s dream girl, Mary (Lauren Holly)? Lloyd: What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together? Mary: Well, Lloyd, that's difficult to say. I mean, we don't really... Lloyd: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances? Mary: Not good. Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred? Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million. [pause] Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*

Lloyd is exuberant to find out there’s a chance – albeit a slim one. And then I wonder how many times I’ve walked away from a dream because success was not guaranteed. Would you continue toward your dream knowing you had only one chance in a million? What were the chances that Jim Carrey would be paid $25,000,000 for Bruce Almighty alone? What were the chances that a 9th grade drop-out would get any shot at making movies of any kind? It appears Jim Carrey is used to working toward the long shot.

As I’ve grown older I find more excitement in the ideas that are a long shot. And as in sports, gambling, inventions or writing popular books, when the long shot comes in, the payoff is stupendous. Are you pursuing any “one in a million” ideas today? Or are you taking the safe route?

Re: Traffic! How do you get it? Re: Traffic! How do you get it? - [quote="KH_Global":30djuj6c]Thanks Mal for the link. Robert[/quote:30djuj6c] My pleasure Robert, I'm sure you will find it useful as there is a seeemingly endless number of sites on there to link to. Some are fairly quick, some take weeks or even months to link to you but the great thing about it is that once you have set up your details, every page autofills without all the hassle of typing them in every time. All you have to do is pick a category and maybe fill in a captcha code or similar to copy and youre done. A lot will not accept a link unless you pay or at least use a reciprocal link option, neither of which I ever use. I only use the sites that offer a free link and there are plenty of those to keep me out of mischief for many hours, LOL, enjoy, Mal.
Re: Speed Networking anyone doing this? Re: Speed Networking anyone doing this? - I've attended a number of speed networking. In fact I'm due to attend a massive record-breaking networking event here in Brighton (UK) in September. They're intense, frantic and can be fun but there's a lot of noise, they need to be well run to keep people to time and ensure swift transitions from one person to the next. You don't get a lot of chance to really talk to people so you MUST follow-up afterwards. It's a great way to hone your one-minute, elevator pitch and you only have a limited amount of time with each person. Also think about what you'll ask them. A good speed networking session will limit the numbers so you should get a chance to talk to the majority of the people there - 30-40max is probably the limit. It's also useful to have breaks, so you have a chance to recharge and catch up with a few people. You might be hoarse by the end of it all but you'll have met far more people than at a normal networking event. The format suits some people better than others. Clare
Re: Obama Wants Social Security for Illegals Re: Obama Wants Social Security for Illegals - All I have to say is we as a country did a pathetic job if the only two we could come up with was Obama AND McCain. There were better candidates available at the beginning, but the election system is faulty in that many states never get a chance to vote for those candidates, mine being one of them. There were a couple of good candidates I would have liked to vote for, but was never given that chance in the primary. Come election day, I had to vote for the lesser of two evils. How sad. Obama WILL make changes... but they're not the changes we as a country need or should look forward to.
Youtube Embedded in Your Site Youtube Embedded in Your Site - [quote:2hbhtcjr]I would be more of the mind to use the videos within your own site, keep your IP yours. [/quote:2hbhtcjr] Hi, Clint Once I get decent video to show, I'll have those embedded on my site. I was just showing these because I thought they were funny... I think it's a good idea to have them on Youtube as well though because when people are searching for video - for example of historic Yorktown, there's a chance my stuff might come up, whereas if I don't have it on Youtube, they have no chance of seeing it unless they stumble across the site! But obviously my "real" travelogues will be a bit more professional. In fact I'm scripting one now...
