Oct 28 1968 Kidney Transplant Survivor Holiday Thoughts

Hello I am still kicking and some wonder why? First and foremost to all children and their parents especially at this time of year my thoughts are always with you and hope all turns out fine! The fear of being thrown into the health care system today has to be much more complicated and scary than even in my early years with the size of the institutions the amount of people and the general confusion involved in a time when technology's grow by the minute. So I hope you can relax some read this maybe laugh but hopefully my experiences will help guide you from a patients view {Never still to this day considered a good one} that has survived all these years and with all the health issues I have had. I want ALL to remember there is ALWAYS someone out there with things worst than you have them this is what kept me fighting all these years.
In this short version I will start with 1967 I as a child always had problems with bes wetting well this was a sign that No one wrote off but with health care programs and technologies in their infancy it was more thought of as a general problem that i would grow out of and did eventually. Well then in my early teen years 13-14 I was not growing allot and was having problems with my bones and it hurt to walk later to be found to be renal rickets. Well we had a local small town horse and buggy doctor who even did house calls Who I still to this day say saved my life and is the reason I am here today the reason being is he was smart enough to know that he did all he could and I needed that attention of a major medical center with specialists and made the arrangements. Thats when the fun began worst part was the secrecy even though I heard it from friends I never got the real story my parents the doctors staff at hospital kept close lips That still to this day Pisses me off so parents if you are reading this always no matter how bad let them KNOW its usually the person thats not got the problem thats taking it bad!
Well now lets get into some more children things First Christmas in a hospital yes 1967 I spent in at the UW Madison Wis hospital that was a very traumatic time and any kid having to do a holiday at a hospital will never forget it. So make it as painless as can be share your thoughts with others don't be a outcast feeling your the only one. I did spend from thanksgiving to day after new years that year and actually my stay for the transplant in 68 was not that bad mentally compared to just the thought of Christmas in a hospital with other sick kids. Well that surgery was to get my calcium under control so my bones would heal and I would start to grow and not be in pain it did work but that was just the start of the big picture yet to come.
Now here is a funny thing that happened I was still very sick but felt Great you should remember kids are very resilient they bounce back quick not like now at 55. In the following months things got real interesting they said I might need a kidney transplant well remember at the time that was a very new program with little results most only short term good. Now was time to get real scared and when i was a kid i had a temper so i was mad at everyone involved and the system in general in fact thats what probably got me the transplant was my attitude to all see in those days it was a panel of doctors and hospital administrators and others that decided if you got one. Well I did from my mother on October 28 1968 A Tuesday same as this year 40 years after the fact. That transplant lasted till 1991 I had a second December 2 1993 still going fine another family donation from my brother. See again always at the Holidays or getting near them and I have some ideas here about that but first let me finish the health thing with this for now. This is part of first chapter I will be adding updates as I write them and put them in order if you read this much I hope you buy the book when its done or give some help now.
The economy has everything to do with health if money is short we do not heal as fast why we do not have the resources we put off doctors don't eat right and so on and to add insult to injury the Holidays hit us. I like many are struggling I am in the Building business I have some good ideas how to generate some cash relief but still writing articles like this hoping that people will venture to my website and at least read what I have to say and am trying to do. I am also writing this book not so much for cash but because the system pisses me off not just the Mess the government is trying to fix but how big the GREED that caused it is involved in the health care system of today and the more article's I write about it the better I will feel but things like the Transplant Program and Hospitals involved with them may not look at it my way!
If you have some interest in me and my book and further updates go to my site listed in bio visit bio page sign up for info and if you can see it invest in me and the things I am trying to promote or just send a donation either way Just say Hi and if nothing else I hope you all stay healthy at the Holiday's. Thanks Happy Holiday!!!
