Outsourcing ‘has become a mandate’ for recession-hit firms

Amid the recession, companies are increasingly using outsourcing to achieve specific cost-saving goals, the findings of a new survey suggest.

According to EquaTerra’s 2Q09 Advisor and Business/IT Service Provider Pulse Survey, 65 percent of outsourcing service providers said they are experiencing continued growth in new deals.

Furthermore, 58 percent of respondents said the economic downturn has increased demand for outsourcing – the fourth quarter in a row that this figure has risen.

When polling its own client-facing advisors, EquaTerra found that the market for business process outsourcing and IT outsourcing continues to be strong, with 46 percent saying that demand remains steady.

Commenting on the results, Stan Lepeak of EquaTerra said that businesses are increasingly using outsourcing as a critical element in their strategy for weathering the recession.

"The fundamental motivation for outsourcing has always been cost savings," he explained. "Now, that aspiration has become a mandate, driving narrowly focused, low-risk deals with specific cost-saving targets."

A Reuters report recently suggested that outsourcing providers are likely to have growing opportunities to meet the needs of U.S. healthcare organizations, as companies in this sector are pressured to reduce costs.

Re: Outsourcing Software Development India Re: Outsourcing Software Development India - Outsourcing projects to Romania, India, and Pakistan have proved to be fantastic in quality and overall value. We've outsourced specific financial suites to Indian firms over the last 5 years and have seen tremendous results. We benefit from being able to have the same software completed over there for a fifth of the cost it would cost to be designed here in Canada. Kudos to you and your firm, all the best in the future!
Definitions of merger Definitions of merger - Mergers can be characterized according to three categories: horizontal mergers, which take place between firms that are actual or potential competitors occupying similar positions in the chain of production; vertical mergers, which take place between firms at different levels in the chain of production (such as between manufacturers and retailers); and other mergers, such as those which take place between unrelated businesses or conglomerates with different types of businesses. Aberdeen Lyle Merger Analysis Large mergers, acquisitions and some other corporate combinations require prior review and approval in some jurisdictions. As part of their review, competition authorities may prohibit mergers or approve them subject to conditions. Mergers are usually only prohibited or subjected to conditions if the authority concludes that the merger will substantially harm competition. Given the discretion inherent in the interpretation of this threshold, various competition authorities have published merger guidelines. These are intended to assist firms and their advisers to anticipate the procedures and criteria, which will be applied in assessing a merger. Some Merger Concerns Merger reviews typically focus on horizontal mergers since, by definition, they reduce the number of competitors in the relevant markets. Also of concern are mergers between firms, which are active in a particular market with another firm, which is a potential competitor.
How She Does It How She Does It - Interesting to see what are the most popular threads in this folder, judging by how many hits each thread gets. There must be a lot of moms out there who want to start businesses. I'm currently reading How She Does It: How Women Entrepreneurs are Changing the Rules of Business Success, by Margaret Heffernan. Some interesting statistics: Between 1997 and 2006, privately held businesses owned by women grew at 3 times the rate of all American privately owned firms, women's companies are creating jobs and growing profits at twice the rate of all firms and are responsible for more payroll than all of the Fortune 500 companies combined. This book tells the stories of a few women who have made it big...recommended reading so you know that "you can do it, too."
Re: Does a New Company need a "Big" PR firm? Re: Does a New Company need a "Big" PR firm? - [quote="TheRainmaker":23enhep1]I agree with SHri, it really depends on the target audience and how much service you really need. if you are doing National campaign than you want a firm that has the National contacts. Lots of smaller companies dont have as many resources or connections. Many firms are going to a pay for performance model which I think will do the PR and advertising industry good. no more $5000 retainers for sending out a couple of press releases - no matter how well written or targeted! if they dont get picked up, they dont get paid. J[/quote:23enhep1] Those retainers were insane and from a lot of people I talk with, the company really wasn't earning it at all. Other firms earned every penny, but its easy for some people to get comfortable doing as little as possible and still taking those retainers. Pay for performance can help make people "hungry" - when they are "hungry", then tend to be more motivated. Shri
