Will You Beat The Jobs Rush?
Will You Beat The Jobs Rush?
Record numbers of individuals were made redundant before the Christmas break and are now sending out their resumes.
And they are not alone.
Also joining them are mums and dads going back to work to boost household income and part-time workers swapping to full-time roles.
So if you are looking for a new job, you need to get your resume out NOW and get ahead of the competition.
But the good news is there are still a high number of vacancies especially in jobs requiring language skills, IT, telecoms, engineering, accountancy, administration and secretarial.
But it is not just about getting your resume out there early. Take extra care and more effort on your resume and application form and job hunting by:
* Use your resume to sell yourself
* Update it, highlight any skills, and put them at the top of your resume
* List your achievements, experience, strengths, skills and be as specific as possible
* Mention the savings your work saved the company
* Or the extra profits and income you made for the company
* Change your resume to suit the job for which you are applying
* Be flexible about what you will take by thinking beyond your old role and sector
* Start by researching what is available by looking at a wide range of job boards and websites. Also ask friends about jobs in their organizations
* Tell recruiters / agencies that you are ready to move fast and willing to be ahead of the pack
* If you are offered an interview, be prepared to attend as soon as possible and be flexible on when you can attend
* Be well groomed. Scruffy hair, dirty shoes, shabby clothes, 3-day stubble, un-kempt smell - any of these (and several more) will put-off the Hiring Manager instantly. And if that happens, you might as well not have the interview
* Decide what you are going to wear and try it on, a few days before the interview. Does it look right?
* Plan your journey and know where you are going. You might have the address but do you know exactly where it is. Go there and visit the address a few days beforehand, so on the day you know exactly where to go and how long it takes
* Make sure you research the company, so you can show you know a little about the company and have relevant questions to ask at the interview
The job market is tough and now is the time to ensure you stand-out.
