Setting Intention and Reaching your Goals with Ease
I have been amazed lately at the power of intention, the power of thought. In fact, last weekend I was in the mountains with a group of women for a tele-ski weekend. One was visiting from New Zealand, so we talked a lot about travel, exploration of new places, where we have been and where we'd like to go next. So much so that I am positive that this travel intention will soon manifest itself, and I'll have a whole new slate of travel stories to share with you--but we'll get to that later!
In the meantime though, it has gotten me thinking about intention- Just this morning while taking a yoga class, I was laying in supta virasana (hero pose), thinking to myself, I REALLY want Megan, the instructor, to come and apply some pressure to my legs to help me settle more deeply into the pose. Next thing I knew, she walked over to me and did just that. I am telling the truth! Instant manifestation.
Just speaking of something that you intend to do, speaking out loud or in your mind of a goal or purpose or aspiration, you will inevitably move towards it. And even more exciting, it will move towards you too, often times without any struggle or effort.
There are many ways to set intention, accidentally and purposefully. Have you ever been wrapped up in your nerves and imagined yourself tripping and falling in front of a large group of people, and then gone and did just that? The most powerful way to set your purpose into motion is to do it from a very mindful place. Try this exercise: When you wake up in the morning, before getting out of bed, imagine exactly how you would like your day to go, from start to finish. First take several deep breaths, bringing you in to the present moment. Then, if you would like to have a very clear minded and productive day, or if you plan to be very creative and present a new proposal to your boss, whatever it might be, imagine that in some detail. Before your feet have even touched the ground, you set your intention in motion, and start your day from there. At the end of the day, take notice of how things rolled out for you. Then take a moment, at the end of the day, or through out the day to feel gratitude for those things that came to you more easily for it.
