Stress Management - Totally FREE
Written by: Sandy KingsleyArticle Overview: Isn't it so easy to focus on the things that worry us, and on the things we don't have or have lost. It's almost a default mode for some to focus and worry on the POSSIBILITY of what we could loose. In fact, it is in our nature it seems, to do that, even without the added reminder from the media. It's much harder to stay in the present, connect with the moment, and enjoy what you HAVE rather than be anxious and distressed about what you don't have, might loose, or what you can not control.

Stress Management - Totally FREE
Does it seem to you like stress, financial uncertainty, tightening of budgets, and more stress has become your daily norm these days? That tension feels impossible to avoid, because even if you are adjusting to tightening your belt with some success, the stress factor is leaking out all over. From newspapers, radio, tv, discussions at work-it's everywhere. In fact, I decided to recycle the newspaper yesterday before even reading it because I already knew what it was going to say-continued unemployment, continued foreclosures, more downsizing, etc.
And yet, it is so easy to focus on the things that worry us, and on the things we don't have or have lost.
Once you take a deep breath into the present moment, you recognize that everything is just as it should be in this moment. Really! Try spending some time each day recognizing all the things you are grateful for (a yoga practice is one thing that helps to enter into this mindful place). And from that grounded, centered, and grateful place it will be much easier for you to see what you might need to do, creatively and constructively, without fear, just in case things do take a big turn for the worse. Change and adjustments don't have to be bad, even if they may be a little uncomfortable at first.
If I may, I suggest you try this for a few days: Choose one daily activity-could be as mundane as every time you reach for a doorknob to open a door, every time your phone rings, every time you walk up the stairs-and each time that happens, take one moment to breath deeply in and deeply out, coming in to the present moment before you turn the door handle, or pick up the phone. Use that chosen trigger to bring you right into the present. And take a moment to breathe deeply. It is a great exercise for being mindful of peace in the moment, taking you out of a fearful, worrisome place to a place of deeper freedom. With practice, those moments of freedom will last longer and longer.
