Yoga Thinking to Improve a Bad Week

"If you feel bound, you are bound. If you feel liberated, you are liberated. Things outside neither bind nor liberate you; only your attitude towards them does that." From the Yoga Sutras.

I've been reading this quote to my yoga students all last week. It is powerful in its truth; a reminder that we all have choices to make around what we attach ourselves to, what stories we make up and live out for ourselves. I love the quote, and yet sometimes this reminder really irritates me..."So" I think to myself, "I'm already feeling down, and now I have to acknowledge that that is my fault too?!!" Ugh, with all the responsibilities that we have already, do I really want to accept that one as well?

I mean, sometimes you are having one of those days, or weeks, when trying to replace the difficult feelings with happy thoughts is just not within your grasp. Know what I mean?

But here is the thing: the message is not, well just don't feel what you are feeling! The message, as I see it, is actually this: if you just sit with those feelings, acknowledge they are there, and also acknowledge that you are not your feelings, you are not your thoughts, then this really cool thing happens. Those uncomfortable feelings or thoughts begin to loosen their grip. Really, try it! You can create space between you and them, and then miraculously, you begin to feel better.

And then you can acknowledge gratitude for yourself, in taking responsibility for your own liberation. How cool is that?

Re: Blog Talk Radio Re: Blog Talk Radio - [quote="BuzzAroundBooks":8lxd7hlg] Hi Shri, As a suggestion, perhaps you could structure your radio show to cover 4 specific book genres every month by interviewing one author per week? For instance, Week 1 would always be business books, while Week 2 could be romance works, then Week 3 is mystery, etc. I think having a set routine will help to build loyal listeners over randomly having a new author from any genre each week.[/quote:8lxd7hlg] I could do that, but I'm using the show as another avenue to promote my clients and the topics they need to highlight are varied each month. Their books will dictate part of what I feature each month. There are other people that I will work in as time allows and they are chosen for a variety of reasons. So, the show is part of the overall promotional campaign that I'm creating for clients. Shri

The cheapest form of energy is gained by a good sleep.[/quote:27no8clf] I second that, there is nothing like a good sleep. I try to work out at least 3 time a week, doing Yoga and just walking. When my car was stolen I had to star walking again, so now I keep doing it, waking up 30 minutes early and taking one of my dogs for a walk.

I don't wear glasses and think a lot of people cripple their vision by wearing specs from an early age instead of exercising their eyes... Nice to see someone has developed an ap that will help.
