Building Relationships That Work With Stress
How can we build friendships that make a difference in stress?
Step 1.Choose a job with a friend. What would it be like if we chose our job partly because of who we worked with. In one newspaper report I read recently 65% of women would like to do that if they could. What would it be like if as best friends we went for job interviews as a twosome or a threesome. I have seen this done with several sales teams. Guys who work amazingly well together go together for a new job. Incidentally in my experience there have not been any other teams who have done so well. It's time to give friendships a high priority. Maybe for some tonight it's time to think radically about friendships in relation to where we work. How about choosing a job because of who works there.
At princess Di's funeral Tony Blair read the words if I have not love, I have nothing. Nothing mark you - oh yes you've got the house the clothes the car but in real terms you have nothing if we don't have love.
2.To make friend be a friend. Think though what would I want in a friendship that I value then, go and give it. Not just once but time and time again. One of the easiest things you can do is to encourage and give credit, public credit to others for their work, their acts of kindness or whatever. The carpenter put it his way, ' In everything do to others what you would like them to do to you'. Everything implies continuity consistency - What would you like to hear? Say it to them. What would you like done to you? Do it to them.
3.Keep an attitude of forgiveness to all those around. There will always be strange people at work. There will always be people who offend us or who do stuff that needs forgiveness so it will need to become a part of daily life.
4.Spend time with people even when it costs you or your workload. Have sandwiches, walks, coffee together. And watch your irritation level when people interrupt your business. An elderly man once said to me, 'people before things'
5.Find different and appropriate ways to give to others.
6. Do acts of kindness - could be as simple as a word of encouragement, could be taking some of their work and adding it to yours. Do unusual things where usual is expected
