God At Work Through Ordinary Men and Women at Work

Last week we looked at the last words of the first Martyr Stephen. His words spelled out profoundly how God had worked His intent and His story though the ages and in his message -m the only one of its kind in the Bible Stephen draws our attention to three main workplace servants of God - Abraham Joseph Moses.

Abraham is the father of the faith for both Jews and gentiles. You don't get much more spiritual or significant than that. But he accomplished that role as a travelling farmer, a businessman a landowner, a cattle rancher and an investor in silver & gold.

Notice in order to become spiritual or significant for God it wasn't that the local church took a love offering and sent Abraham and Sarah off to the local Ur Hilton for a sabbatical so they could get away from the 'so-called' secular world of work and become spiritual enough to become the father of our faith. No it was not inspite of Abrahams working world that he becomes qualified to be the father of our faith. No rather it was precisely because of those occupations and his faith filled walk with God in them that he becomes the father of our faith. One day - every tribe tongue, and nation will one day stand before the throne of God - every tribe and tongue on the planet and it will be because of God's promise to a working man.

Joseph's prophetic ministry began in animal husbandry, took him into service in prison management and finally into the highest government office - from which he managed global food supplies at a time of global shortage. His natural talents and his supernatural gifting in the workplace were both a key ingredient in the outcome.

Moses was an academic in the first 40 years of his life, (Cleopatras needle) a nomadic farmer, managing his father-in-law's flocks for 40 years before finally becoming an international politician.

LET'S NOTICE A FEW THINGS IN PASSING

These men were not official priest, Levites or pastors or church staff

They were not paid by the church of the day

God used these three working men to change the course of world history for the Jews, the gentiles & the church

In each case God used their working environment to shape them and through them - in their place of work - He opened up doors of function and destiny in the Kingdom of God

Could it really be then that God loves work - could it really be that God loves me at work - could it really be that God wants to be working with me at work.

REFLECT Let's reflect on that for a few moments. What difference could it make to know in my heart, that God loves me at work, and His desire is to participate with me at work and in my work
