Nature Helps ADHD Symptoms

Researchers at the University of Illinois found that 20 minutes in nature (think green!) helped reduce unwanted ADHD symptoms among its participants. While this study was done with children, the researchers state that their findings also extend to ADHD adults and the non-ADHD population. If you live in the city or a built up area, don't feel like you are discounted from the advantages. The benefits of being outside in a "green area" were present whether the participants were in a city park or a remote rural setting. This is great news as it means that no matter where you are in the world, you will still be able to implement and enjoy the benefits that being in nature has on your ADHD.

There are all sorts of ways to incorporate green time into your day, from a gentle stroll to something more adventurous. Here is a list of some activities you can do to ensure you are spending time in nature. However, there are many more!

1. A stroll or gentle walk

2. Bike riding

3. Inline skating

4. Horseback riding

5. Growing a garden

6. Hiking

7. Canoeing

8. Fishing

9. Running

10. Flying a kite

11. Camping

12. If you have a garden, start doing some of your regular activities there, such as eating meals and reading the newspaper.

13. Yoga or Tai Chi (done outside)

14. Bird watching

15. Walking your dog

Depending on where you live and your lifestyle, some of these activities you will only be able to do at the weekend, while others are more accessible and you can do them every day.

Action Steps

If you aren't used to being outside in a green setting, slowly integrate it into your life, until it's part of your daily routine. Remember, it's important not just that you are outside, but that you are in a green setting.

1. Have at least 20 minutes of green time a day (but there is no maximum.)

2. Try every item on the list once, just for fun.

3. On days that you aren't able to go outside, notice and compare how you feel to those days that you are outside.

Re: Take Some ACTION already! Re: Take Some ACTION already! - I think once you have an idea that is really solid, you need to run with it. All of your working hours should be concentrated on making it happen. Many people have great ideas but get distracted when the next great idea comes along. It's like they are opportunity hoppers. I guess they think that they'll make money quicker with this newer idea and they lose focus on what they were trying to originally build up. I hear stories like this a lot. Maybe it's entrepreneurial adult ADHD. Who knows. Don't lose confidence in an idea that you have researched and found as solid. Stick with it until you make it happen and don't get side-tracked by anything else, no matter how great it looks.
Re: Auto-DM's on Twitter Re: Auto-DM's on Twitter - Auto DM's can be bad if you include links in them. If you want to utilize the auto DM feature I would suggest only sending "automatic" message to new followers. You want to keep it short and to the point and absolutely no links. If you send links to people right off the hop they are more likely just delete the message rather than read it. You have to build trust in your followers before you start trying to get them to navigate to another page through links even if your offering them something "free". Your message should look something like, "Thanks for the follow, Look forward to your tweets" or something like that. If you want to give away your e-book just Tweet it or you can start conversations with people, build their trust then offer them the e-book. Hope this Helps. Dallas.
dont be niave dont be niave - I was watching the news a few weeks ago (I try not too) and hear the reporter say 'more grocery chains will be selling meat from cloned animals in the near future". Did she mean that we are already buying and eating meat from 'cloned' animals now?? eek! But sadly its naive to think that anything we eat, put on our bodies or inhale hasnt been modified, improved or genetically enhanced. And yet, the world wonders why more and more people have allergies, mental disorders, ADHD, autism etc. Its the poor children that really suffer! I dont have much more hope for the Organic growers out there. I think the world is too far gone when it comes to what we eat and how produce, and meat is mass produced. Did you know that genealogy in cattle is more popular than for ourselves? Grocers and producers can now itemize where that pork chop came from and who its great grandmother (clone or not) was. Hmm.... And people wonder why I refuse to immunize myself or my family! And dont even get me started on milk and the junk they put in that. In fact, I have a pure boycott on milk in general. Have you ever wondered why humans even drink milk? We are the only species that drinks milk after we have been 'weaned' from our mothers... Gross. So in short, it doesnt surprise me that onions will soon be tear free. In fact, I wonder if they will instead inject them with something like a giggle agent, so instead of crying when you peel onions, you can have a warm fuzzy happy experience. Oi!
Re: Calling All Entrepreneurs Re: Calling All Entrepreneurs - Hey Kamna, In regards to "social media" marketing, Facebook,Twitter and blogs are definitely the leading players. However, my belief is that when you are successful at satisfying your guests, they will handle your social media marketing for you. Your restaurant may have the largest fan base in Facebook, but can you really say that all of them are, or ever will be loyal customers to your restaurant? At the end of the day, the most important factor that will make your customers to return, is a superior dining experience, which starts as soon as they enter into the parking lot. I am not saying that you should not focus on social media marketing. I have come up of two tactics that you may find useful, other than using Facebook and Twitter. 1. Check out "meetup.com". Meetup Helps groups of people with shared interests plan meetings and actually meet up offline. There are tonnes of groups within the GTA area, and the groups are always looking for new venues that offer good food and service. You can contact group organizers by email, or even join the groups that you are interested in and host the next meet up at your restaurant. 2. blogTO: my favorite local blog is blogTO. It has an extensive amount of reviews, and articles about all things Toronto. It has become an active community, and a great resource centre. Make sure that you are in the list, so that people can post reviews:) It would be a good idea, too if you can moderate the comment section to encourage participation. Ryann
