Life Isn't FAIR!
Written by: Brad SwiftArticle Overview: Purposeful Pondering Question for Today: Are You Living a Grace Filled Life? A few years ago, my daughter, Amber, went through her 'that's not fair' phase. Seemed like every time I turned around I heard her say, "but that's not fair." Didn't seem to matter much what the 'that' was she was talking about, life just seemed to be unfair all the way around. Have you ever thought that way -- that life just isn't fair. Well, I want you to know that you're right. Life isn't fair. It's actually rigged in YOUR FAVOR. That's right.

Life Isn't FAIR!
Purposeful Pondering Question for Today: Are You Living a Grace Filled Life?
A few years ago, my daughter, Amber, went through her 'that's not fair' phase. Seemed like every time I turned around I heard her say, "but that's not fair." Didn't seem to matter much what the 'that' was she was talking about, life just seemed to be unfair all the way around.
Have you ever thought that way -- that life just isn't fair. Well, I want you to know that you're right. Life isn't fair.
It's actually rigged in YOUR FAVOR. That's right.
------------
It's all about Grace
------------
Although I’ve heard about the grace of God most of my life, starting with my childhood upbringing in Southern Baptist churches, it was only a few years ago that I began to understand the concept and then to experience living a grace-filled life.
I started by looking up the word in the dictionary, where I discovered that grace means: “the unmerited divine assistance for humans for their regeneration and sanctification.” Of course, I next had to look up the word sanctification or sanctify to learn that it means “to be free from sin.”
Pulling these two together, living a grace filled life means to experience the unmerited divine assistance of God so that we can live a life free from sin. But hold on.
I don’t know about you, but with my Southern Baptist roots, the word ‘sin’ carries with it an enormous negative charge, so let’s look a bit closer at its meaning...at least its meaning from the life on purpose perspective.
According to Eric Butterworth, author of Spiritual Economics, sin is an ancient archery term that literally means, “off the mark.” In olden days if you missed the bull’s eye of the target you had sinned – you’d missed the mark. From a life purpose perspective, being off the mark is the same as being off purpose; another way of talking about those times when your life is being shaped by the fear, lack and struggling of your inherited purpose.
Living a grace filled life means we can enjoy and benefit from God assisting us to live a life on purpose and we don’t have to earn it because it’s a given – it’s unmerited. So, life really isn’t fair.
Life is actually rigged in YOUR FAVOR!
So, if you’re not experiencing being in the flow of life, you’re working to resist the flow of the Universe.
----------
Flowing Down the River of Life
----------
Many years ago while attending the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine I took up white water canoeing along with some of the other vet students. Our guide was a wise and knowledgeable college professor who also loved canoeing named Dr. Dawe, who took us under his wing so that we wouldn’t drown before we graduated.
His first safety lesson was very simple. “When you fall into the waters at a set of rapids, be sure to keep your feet out in front of you, your head up out of the water, then relax and enjoy the ride.”
What if we approached our lives like this, instead of resisting the ride, we simply enjoyed the ride along the rapids of the Universal River of Life?
This is why one of Life On Purpose Institute’s key operating principles is to “flow with what’s flowing, and work on what’s working,” rather than get caught up in whatever might not be flowing.
But how do we flow down the stream of a grace-filled life?
---------
Gratitude - Doorway to Grace
---------
I know of no finer way to begin experiencing a grace-filled life than with a regular serving of gratitude. I recently interviewed bestselling author and spiritual sage, John Randolph Price, for the Living & Working On Purpose radio show.
He shared with my co-host, Reva Kussmaul and me that when his wife, Jan and he first started on the spiritual path they spent a week loving everything. "I loved myself, my wife, God. I loved the refrigerator, the stove, everything." He went on to say that that 7 days and the 7 days that followed were so incredible that he figured God's Universal Love really did work.
So, will you join me this week in being thankful and loving everything you possibly can about your life? After all, life isn't fair. It's rigged in your favor.
