Empower yourself at lunch time - Take the lunch break challenge

Do you need ‘The Lunch Break Challenge’? Do you often feel tired and lethargic in the afternoons? Do you feel resentful towards your employer or your organization, or your clients? If you answered yes to any of these questions, the lunch break challenge is for you…. Firstly, you must commit to a lunch hour every day of the week for the next two weeks. Your lunch hour is to consist of exercise, relaxation and healthy food. Does this sound easy enough, or does your pulse wind up a notch or two at the thought? If you feel a resistance to this you need to ask yourself “Why?” What keeps you from taking a lunch time break? Become aware of, and acknowledge what is stopping you from stepping away from your work for an hour and utilizing your time? Is it because you have too much work to do? Is it to prove to your boss or your peers that you are committed to your work? How about - Too hot, cold, rainy, windy? Or, too tired, can’t be bothered or not feeling well enough? If you do leave the building, do you spend your time throwing down your food whilst on the run, doing the banking, paying bills, buying groceries or shopping for the kids? Write down a list of tasks that keep you from taking your lunch hour, and find a solution to overcome this. You may need to delegate more. You may need to say 'no' to others and 'yes' to yourself. Now, book a lunch hour into your diary. Cross out an hour! If your lunch break is for ½ an hour, cross out this time. Tips to Empower yourself at lunch time- • Pack a healthy lunch with food that boost brain activity and ensure you get all the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients you need each day to keep healthy. A lunch which is high in fibre, low in fat, and is based on low GI foods also provides the long-lasting energy to help avoid the mid-afternoon slump and keep you feeling good through the day. Eat your lunch outside. • Spend time in the sun. Sunlight stimulates the body to produce vitamin D which has been proven to offer protection from some cancers, osteoporosis, and diabetes. • Exercise stimulates various brain chemicals, which leave you feeling happier and more relaxed than you were before you worked out. You'll also look and feel better when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem. Exercise even reduces feelings of depression and anxiety. Yoga, gym, pilates, a walk around the block, park or up and down stairs. • Meditate. Clear your head of fog and confusion so you are more focused, creative and decisive. Download a meditation CD onto your ipod so it’s quick and easy for you to relax and refresh your mind, body and spirit. • Read a book, visit the library. • Visit the art gallery. • Meet a friend. Tell the people in your office you are taking a regular lunch break and encourage them to do the same. Take your lunch break and empower yourself with the energy happiness and enthusiasm necessary to create a happy, fulfilling and successful life.

Re: Would you pass on a media opportunity? Re: Would you pass on a media opportunity? - I don't know how it is now... but it also seemed as if a lot of my local Toastmaster groups only held meetings during weekday lunch hour (which isn't very practical since some people only have a 30 minute lunch break, while it could take 10+ minutes to drive to the location as well). I recall only 1-2 of which that were held at night and after work. Moreover, not many groups (if any at all) were offered during the weekends cause I guess Toastmasters target audience are business professionals who are typically married with children and other household obligations.
Re: Does it help to join business groups? Re: Does it help to join business groups? - Different groups can have a very different feel to them, so it's good to try out several. I was in a lunch group for a while that was very formal, and a bit expensive as you had to purchase the event ticket and the lunch. It was a small group, and they knew each other well. They were nice people, but there was really no opportunity for us to help each other -- more of a social thing really. I've also done chamber of commerce, or women's entrepreneur events. I always have a good time, but I haven't found many business leads that way -- most of the newer entrepreneurs often don't have the financial resources to hire others (at first anyway). I did get one big job back when I was a freelance writer from one of these events, however. I've met more clients through regular socializing surprisingly! Knowing a person through friends can make others feel more comfortable it seems.
Why Should I Make a Budget? Why Should I Make a Budget? - You say you know where your money goes and you don’t need it all written down to keep up with it? I issue you this challenge. Keep track of every penny you spend for one month and I do mean every penny. You will be shocked at what the itty-bitty expenses add up to. Take the total you spent on just one unnecessary item for the month, multiply it by 12 for months in a year and multiply the result by 5 to represent 5 years. That is how much you could have saved AND drawn interest on in just five years. That, my friend, is the very reason all of us need a budget. If we can get control of the small expenses that really don’t matter to the overall scheme of our lives, we can enjoy financial success. The little things really do count. Cutting what you spend on lunch from five dollars a day to three dollars a day on every work day in a five day work week saves $10 a week… $40 a month… $480 a year… $2400 in five years….plus interest. See what I mean… it really IS the little things and you still eat lunch everyday AND that was only one place to save money in your daily living without doing without one thing you really need. There are a lot of places to cut expenses if you look for them. Set some specific long term and short term goals. There are no wrong answers here. If it’s important to you, then it’s important period. If you want to be able to make a down payment on a house, start a college fund for your kids, buy a sports car, take a vacation to Aruba… anything… then that is your goal and your reason to get a handle on your financial situation now.
Re: Time-Management Success Story! Re: Time-Management Success Story! - @Michelle @Trent I know what you mean! On Monday I had four key objectives to achieve. I didn't write them down - they were so strongly impressed in my noddle that I didn't need to! Perhaps keeping things simple and urgent is the key... Yesterday was a reasonably successful day, but not half as productive as Monday. Productivity always takes a dive when I have two classes to teach in two different parts of town at two different times of day (lunch time/evening)!
Re: Adrian Fernandez - GH Caskets Re: Adrian Fernandez - GH Caskets - Thank you for making me feel welcome. I've been reading various topics and it looks like there is a wealth of knowledge here that many of us can benefit from. Let me ask this: What did it feel like when you finally quit your 9 to 5 job to focus on your own business? I'm still doing the 9 to 5 and I'm working on my own business before work, during breaks and lunch, weekends, etc. I can already envision the day when I can focus full time on my business.
