Why Entrepreneurs Need To Exercise Differently Than Other People

Article Overview: Most entrepreneurs are aware of the importance to stay in shape, but the challenge is that entrepreneurs typically adopt the same approach to exercise as they do to business. To support your fast paced and intense working life the temptation is to do a high intensity workout at full pace. This is a mistake. Adding high intensity, fast-paced exercise to a high intensity, fast-paced life only serves to amplify the imbalance in your life leading to an increased risk of illness, injury or burnout. Why Entrepreneurs Need To Exercise Differently Than Other People

Most entrepreneurs are aware of the importance to stay in shape, but the challenge is that entrepreneurs typically adopt the same approach to exercise as they do to business. I call this being an"Exhaustedpreneur".Exhaustedpreneurs are entrepreneurswhose bodies can't physically keep up with the demands oftheir work and life. I understand that many entrepreneurshave been told of thebenefits of intense exercise. But how can intense exercise adversely impact the health and working capacity of an entrepreneur? It is all about exercising in balance. I call it Exercising Rght For Your Engine Type. What I mean by this is that we all go about our day at different paces. Exercise is most effective to rebalance your own engine by training it at intensities that are different to the intensity that you live life. That is why the same exercise program doesn't always work for different people.

Consider the gears in your car. In order to travel at different speeds to safely adapt to all the twists and turns you have 5 gears to use to make this more efficient. Exhaustedpreneurs typically are like aFerrari with only two gears: overdrive and neutral. They adopt the all or nothing approach in their day-to-day life. The challenge is that life goes at a lot of different paces that require different gears. Exhaustedpreneurs have trained themselves to combat all situations in fifth gear and can be regarded by others as 'highly strung'. ( Exhaustedpreneurs call this "being driven")

Fifth gear is your 'stress gear'. Your stress gear enables you to run away at the speed of an Olympian on steroids from an attacking lion even though it has taken a piece out of your leg. The release of powerful painkillers and the get-up-and-go chemical called adrenaline gives us the ability to perform such amazing feats of the body and mind. Exhaustedpreneurs get addicted to the release of these chemicals.

The problem is that this "stress gear" burns up massive amounts of fuel in the process and you primarily burn sugar and store fat for energy. This gives exhaustedpreneurs the dangerous cocktail of low sugar and high fat levels make you susceptible to illness and burnout.

What is the solution?

For the Ferrari engine types who spend all day at full pace, you need to adopt an exercise program of a lower intensity to help strengthen and develop your "lower gears". Including exercises like yoga, Tai Chior Chi Gong that gently exercise your body in a variety of ways is especially beneficial for the fast-paced entrepreneur because it has the added advantage of quietening your mind at the same time. You can do unlimited amounts of low intensity aerobic exercise such as jogging or cycling but it is improtant to do it at an intenisty where you are beginning to puff.Spend four months doing low intensty exercises before considering ramping up the intensity.

Re: How do you create a million dollar idea? -

But in all seriousness, I hear that there's only 2 ways to make "big" money: 1.) sell money (e.g. what banks do) 2.) connect people together (e.g. online dating services, Facebook, etc.)[/quote:2idrd1v8][/quote:2idrd1v8] I've never heard this before but I certainly hope it's true. My new Internet business connects entrepreneurs in need of funding. Entrepreneurs funding entrepreneurs.[/quote:2idrd1v8] Hi bizdev, The reason why those 2 points I listed above are true (a successful entrepreneur I knew once told me about them) because it doesn't matter if the economy is poor or good, etc... 1.) People will always need to borrow money and there's an almost infinite number of customers. 2.) People are social beings and will always desire to "connect" with others whether to date, make friends, require jobs, etc. Success or the "million dollar" payout just comes from execution of those 2 ideas.
CEOs and Email - Slaves? CEOs and Email - Slaves? - I wonder if the emails they are responding to are filtered thru their assistants first 'cos they seem to spend a lot of their off hours responding to them. True they are successful but I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay that price. I'd be interested to know what's the in the typical day planner of Entrepreneurs on the Forum. Entrepreneurs are a different breed than Paid Employees- so it would be interesting to view the contrast.
Re: What are your January Goals? Re: What are your January Goals? - Here's a quick update on mine: Goal #1: Hire New Writer = done - Post job description on oDesk - Set up trial job - Pick top candidate Goal #2: Follow up with Clients = done - Create and send quarterly report - Touch base with last year's clients - Follow up with 4 connectors Goal #3: PERSONAL = about 70% done on the month - Do something nice for my wife each week - Exercise 4 times per week - Daily stretch - want to touch my toes
Fundraising for 3rd world Entrepreneurs Fundraising for 3rd world Entrepreneurs - How great to learn that Evan is doing something for Entrepreneurs in Africa! It just makes me even more thankful to be part of this forum! After helping create a new charity for animals in my local community last year, I created a vision for a charity empowering Women Entrepreneurs. It won't happen for a while yet, but I know it is something I will do within the next few years. As we allow ourselves to think bigger, the opportunity to impact people becomes much bigger as well. Does anyone else have a desire to really make a difference in the world through this means?
Re: Kevin's Forum Mastermind Group Re: Kevin's Forum Mastermind Group - Kevin sorry to hear about your health setbacks, just take it easy until everything heals, as you will make it worse otherwise and it is not so much now, but later in life that these things come back to bite you. Once you have recovered you can get back to doing the things you want to do. Exercise is very important (if you are healthy) especially for people like us who spend so much time in front of a computer, so I make a point of going to the gym, usually first thing in the morning about 6.30am and then begin my day when I get back. I am slowly clawing my way back up as far as my business is concerned. Trying to spend more time doing article marketing etc. Unfortunately the day J.O.B. also takes some of my time, but that is what pays the bills so has to be done. MichelleJ
