Open the Floodgates!

Recent statistics from 2009 show that 55% of employees plan to change jobs, career or industries "as soon as the economy improves." Shouldn't corporate America be informed of this (completely tongue in cheek)? Obviously, this is a classic case of "not being able to see the forest for the trees."

Leigh Branham, founder and CEO of the Overland Park, KS company Keeping The People, says employees leave for seven main reasons, and money isn't among the seven.

Instead, workers leave because:

1. The job or workplace was not as expected

2. Mismatch between job and person

3. Too little coaching and feedback

4. Too few growth and advancement opportunities

5. Feeling devalued and unrecognized

6. Stress from overwork and work-life balance

7. Loss of trust and confidence in senior leaders

Believe it or not, managers can (and leaders SHOULD) address items 3, 5 and 7 IMMEDIATELY!

It can be done with some passion and belief and basically zero expense. Does anybody think about this stuff? Are we so busy worrying about saving money with a "coffee club" that we miss the mass exodus that faces us as economic perception improves?

I'll say it over and over: It's not what someone is paid, it's what the person COSTS an organization that counts. How much are your "leaders" costing your organization?

Re: High price of entertainment Re: High price of entertainment - [quote="TheAnonymousMan":dadh8m1p]Kevin, I went to a Justin Timberlake concert recently where the bottled water was selling for $4 a bottle! I'm talking about the average 600ml bottle that sells for about $1.20 in the supermarket, now that's a rip off but people were buying it because they needed water.[/quote:dadh8m1p] Hi TheAnonymousMan, Can I ask how much you paid for the concert tickets? And more importantly, was the show worth the price? At the Tennis US Open, I had to pay $3.25 for a 500ml bottled water, $8.00 for a "travel size" Hawaiian Tropic bottle of sunscreen, and $13.00 for a Carnegie Deli pastrami sandwich, $4.25 for fries and $2.77 for a Sharpie pen (for autographs), etc... And to make things worse, they don't allow you to carry a backpack for security reasons, so it's very inconvenient to bring your own things to the event (keep in mind I was at the US Open for 7 hours). I mean who wants to carry around 10 lbs worth of stuff (if I were to bring my own necessities like food/water/sunscreen/etc. and have to carry a bunch of souvenirs) in a plastic transparent bag for the whole day?! It's an obvious scam for more profit.
Re: Internet Users Hbk http://www.internetscamsanonymous.com Re: Internet Users Hbk http://www.internetscamsanonymous.com - Hi Dr Don, Okay, I will modify that part of my review. I converted the file you sent me to an Open Office document and then converted that to a PDF file. It's good of you to give away free chapters, but the quality and depth of information suggests to me that you definitely have a marketable product - or series of products.

CRM Options CRM Options - Greetings When I was working within a virtual team we used FreeCRM, it was an easy to access repository for all the information on our clients and how the business was going that any of us could check at any time. One of Australia's leading Web Development companies uses Zimbra an Open Source email/calendar application which is a great alternative to Microsoft Exchange. However it does cost money for a commercial licence but could definitely work out cheaper than a Microsoft Exchange solution depending on your business.
Re: New Infographic: Top Ten Reasons to Partner with Someone Re: New Infographic: Top Ten Reasons to Partner with Someone - I really like this! I like how it's so concise and the visual is really nice! I think a great partner is invaluable. But a bad match in a partner can set a person back. Just like a good marriage statistically results in being happier, but a frustrating marriage can reduce life satisfaction. So finding a great match in a business partner is really important. Open communication is so vital, as keeping info from your partner can result in big blow ups and lack of trust later on.
