5 Tips On How To Create A Client Attractive “About” Page
Getting a massage, acupuncture, 1:1 coaching, nutritional
health counselling, doing yoga … for the first time can be a scary experience
for people. When they call you for an appointment for the first time, they
don’t know who you are, what you do, or what you are like as a person. They
don’t know anything about you at all. They are calling a complete stranger.
Not only are they calling a complete stranger, but they are
calling with the goal of letting this complete stranger into their lives on a
deep level – and if you’re a massage therapist, it means you’ll be touching
them all over, possibly even behind closed doors in a small room with their
clothes off.
It’s a wonder that anyone calls for an appointment!
And this is why it is so important to help potential clients
get to know you as a person before asking them to call. If you were referred to them, there will be
less nervousness on the client’s behalf about getting in touch. However, if the
prospect has found you through your website this means they will be a “cold
lead”. In which case you are going to
have to build a case to work with you, and quick.
With that in mind, did you know that the “About Page” is the
second most viewed page after your homepage? Yup it is. So, use this page to
make a strong connection right off the bat and get your readers compelled,
interested and engaged.
Let’s look at what needs to be on your About page so that
you can capture many clients into your holistic practice– since that’s our
goal. Once you have this page constructed, it may well become one of your
loftiest tools to engage with your clients. It will also help to encourage
sales, enhance trust and increase respect.
1. Share You
Let’s be honest. You want to heal your peeps, this is what
you’re meant to be doing and I’m certain you’re really good at your craft - but
think about any new client – their putting themselves in a vulnerable position
to work with you. Especially, if they’re a cold lead (someone who hasn’t been
referred to you). So make sure that your About page shares a certain essence
about you. Develop a bond. Get personal. Tell a story that they can relate to.
2. Consistently You
There are some really beautifully designed sites out there
and there are great sites chalk full of educational info. But sometimes, you
click the About page of one of these holistic sites, and you’re eyeballs start
to dry up because of the dry content. Be consistent with the voice and style
you use throughout your site, and reflect the same personality on your About
page.
3. Add A Personal
Touch
In this day in age people are craving personality, transparency
and honesty. Gone are the days of About pages listing the year of company
founding and boring credentials. Now people want to see who you really are, how
you came to be here and what you do in your off time. Don’t go and reveal your
entire life story – keep the content relevant and concise. Just add a personal
touch and give people a taste of who you are. Show a little of the face behind
the online mask.
4. Don’t Forget the
Credentials
While About pages should tell an honest, interesting story,
they should also still have those credentials in there. Mention your
experience, your education or your skills – just do it with style. Note how
long you’ve been in business (if it’s been a while), and indicate any
accomplishments that make you stand out. You can also list associations you’re
involved in, distinguishing factors, or organizations you support. Do you do
volunteer work or donate funds? List that too, because it helps show people
what you stand for.
Don’t have any credentials? Just getting started? That’s
okay; we all start somewhere. In this case, mention how you learned your craft
and why you became involved in this line of work. You don’t have to say when
that was, but you do have some backup that makes you a credible provider,
authority or business.
If you want more clients to call for an appointment or sign
up for your free newsletter or free offer, then your About page becomes an
extra place to “pitch” the benefits of your services. Use your About page to
convey your likeability, what you’re like to work with, the value you provide
and why you’re different from the competition. Include a link to your
testimonials page. Consider all of the objections to working with you and post
those with answers in a Q & A format.
Your ABOUT PAGE will be one of the most effective and
powerful tools in bringing in business. In the process of incorporating the
above five must have elements, don’t forget to let yourself be wildly,
beautifully, powerfully you, while facing the people you want to help.
Until next week….now go heal your peeps!
Many Blessings,
Jackie
