What do you think of yourself?
Did you know that your self image and the beliefs you hold about yourself are a defining factor in whether or not you'll achieve your goals? Read that again. This means that your self esteem is a direct link to your success. You may be saying to yourself "I know that already Jackie. Tell me something new already." But, do you really KNOW this? Or have you simply read it somewhere before? I totally got busted on this with my own coach.
How many times have you tried to lose weight, increase your profit margin in your business, create a new and loving relationship, increase your prices or simply aim for "more" out of life, yet didn't manage to accomplish your goal? What happened when you gave in and took a back seat to your desires? Did you beat yourself up again? And then, did you tell yourself "you see, you're not cut out for this!."
Sadly, this is what I see happening with many people. And, I admittedly have found myself in that exact same situation every now and again (takes one to know one!).
I know when I'm there because it feels like a beating stick is reinforcing and proving my old self image. And the result is that a feeling of despair, struggling and being stuck in the mud become a normal state of being. And the result of that is more frustration, more feelings of unworthiness, uncertainty, and a big inferiority complex. The result of that is less life and more of the same. Sad isn't it.
Throughout my 1:1 work with clients, I've noticed this as a common theme and it really bothers me. It's frustrating because ultimately, everyone wants "more life" - more success, more happiness, more peace, more time, more fun, more love. We are scientifically built to be goal-setters. And, everyone has a special version of themselves to share. Yet so many people hold back.
So, here is the million dollar question. When will you decide to stop inhibiting your unique abilities, constricting your special talents and allowing yourself to stay in anxiety, fear, and self condemnation?
Doing this will choke off your life force. In essence you're suffocating yourself. To the degree that you deny yourself the gifts of life and what you bring into this life through your uniqueness, the more you accept and embrace suffering. Trust me I see this all too often. And, I've been there. It feels awful.
What's the lesson? Change your self image, self definition, self perception and your actions will be totally different. Your own self image is your own concept on the "sort of person I am". And therefore you will act upon that picture of yourself just as if it were true. What happens is that the goals you set for yourself will start to align with your new self image, your unconscious mind will accept them and you will find ways to move through your self sabotaging behaviors.
The yummiest part is that you will feel good inside. You will start to achieve the goals you set with more ease and eliminate will power. You will enjoy expressing your authentic self and you will no longer feel like you have to hide or cover up any part of you. YUM-MY!
Your Success Assignment:
1 - Value your skills, your unique abilities and creative talents. Raise your prices if you're an entrepreneur, ask for a raise if you work in corporate, stand proud and say no when you would otherwise say yes, ask for what you need, program and condition your beliefs to align with the "more" of what you want out of life. If you feel like a fraud at first when you ask for "more" that's good! This is the starting place because you're stretching into a new place inside of you so it will feel different.
2 - The more often you do this, the easier it becomes and the more self esteem you'll be building in the process!
