The Best Ways to Combat Stress

Stress is one of the major causes of ill-health and unhappiness in modern life. Many apparent physical problems have a stress component and we are increasingly putting ourselves under pressure to perform and be better at what we do. Even children are found to be suffering from stress. Examinations, personal appearance, an unsettled home life can all factor in and cause stress.

Here are some of the best ways to combat stress.

- Focus on a positive frame of mind. There is often more than one way of looking at something. By learning to appreciate setbacks as times when we learn the most, opportunities to improve our skills, times when we ask for help and improve our relationships with others, we can turn potentially negative situations into more positive ways of seeing the world.

- Be happy with what you have. We can all look at others and envy their appearance, their career, relationships, wealth, but interestingly they may well be looking at us and envying something that we take for granted. I recently hosted a lunch for ten of my friends and during the conversation one friend, a successful single, highly respected doctor said that she envied another friend, a lady who had given up her career as an accountant to become a stay at home mum to her four children. She envied the family, the home life. The ex-accountant turned to the doctor and said that she envied her career, independence and success. That is so often the way!

- Commit to eating well. It can tempting to not bother cooking, to live on snacks, pre-chilled meals, or a slice of toast, high energy drinks and alcohol. Eating well means having a break for meals during the day, finishing at a reasonable time in the evening, enjoying the therapeutic process of preparing vegetables, cooking and sitting to eat and enjoy what you have made.

- Take time out for friends. Have people round in an evening to share a meal together, take time to meet up for lunch or even a coffee. It is better than losing those relationships through being more committed to your work. And putting yourself and your friends in your diary says that these people are important to you.

- Exercise. Everyone talks about the importance of exercise, but it needn't be formal or sweaty. Yes, having a regular session booked with a personal trainer means that some personal time is scheduled in your diary; paying a subscription to a gym means you are more likely to go, but exercise can be fun and is a good way to combat stress. Get friends or family together and organise a game of rounders or football on the local playing fields, arrange to go for a regular walk with your partner or children. This can become one of the most enjoyable times of the day, when you get to chat together, share information, discover what is going on in their lives. And you could put a meal in the oven before you go out, so that you come back to an enjoyable dinner afterwards.

- Commit to a regular bedtime. Try to organise work, eating, serious conversations for two or three hours before bed. And try to wind down, treating sleep as an important part of your commitment to yourself and to your health. Having a regular sleeping pattern trains your body into a healthy routine.

Getting a healthy balance between work and play, taking time for fun, family and friends can ensure that health is improved and satisfaction levels increase. Some stress is good. It keeps us alert and performing well, but too much stress is unhealthy and counter-productive.

Re: Infographic: The 4 Main Stress Factors Re: Infographic: The 4 Main Stress Factors - I'd like to reference that article in my next blog post as well.. I worked in sales for years and found that days when I was positive, relaxed where days that it was easy to sell. On days that I was stressed I found I would not reach target. Stress is good at times, but it very easily becomes problematic. I do a lot of very physical exercise and work now, to manage it.

Where to print a book Where to print a book - [quote:39vg8s93]So, writing a chapter a day, I finished in a month, and Kidpreneur: Genius Ways for Kids to Pay For College was born. Currently my book is self published -- I just printed up 100 copies to give to all the people featured in the book, teachers, and some more to sell at $20.00 a piece (it costs $10.00 a copy at Kinko's, so it's not really an outrageous price). [/quote:39vg8s93] If at all possible, you need to stop using Kinko's now and go price some real printers. It should cost only a couple of dollars a piece, if that, to print your book. Admittedly you'll have to buy in bulk, but the overall savings - selling a $2 book for $20 so that you make an $18 profit instead of a measley $10.... is something every kidpreneur should think about!
Revenue Streams for Websites Revenue Streams for Websites - Too funny, I was just reading a book: Multiple Streams of Internet Income: How Ordinary People make extraordinary money on line, by Robert G. Allen. 2001 That's a misnomer, though - they're not ordinary people, they're people with established careers who can take their expertise and exploit it on the web. Ways to generate income? 1) Sell your own material on the site. Ebooks, etc. 2) Join various affiliate programs that match what your website is about. 3) Google adsense - All my money comes from this... it's started out slow but as readership of my sites grown, the income has grown. Nothing to write home about yet... 4) Google adwords - the advertisers whose ads show up on Google Adsense. Unless you're selling big ticket items on your site you don't want to use it, your keywords can cost from 20 cents upwards.
