“Just to be fine.”
“Always staying very positive.”
“Doin’ the positive vibe. Positive.”
Hello Believe Nation.
Today we’re going to talk about how you can be positive.
And, as always guys as you’re watching the videos if you see something that really resonates with you, please leave it in the comments below and put quotes around it so other people can be inspired and if you write it down it’s much more likely to stick with yourself as well.
I, as you know, I was a bouncer for many years. I remember coming home one night after a big fight and run up to the kitchen and get ice and my hand’s swollen and just another day at work. And, I was feeling like just bummed about the fact that I was still doing this job after all this time.
At that one moment I was like why are people, why do people have so much anger? Why do I have to, you know, why is this my daily life to suppress everybody’s anger or check everybody’s anger that comes into the giant 3,000-person nightclub? And, my father who is so simple, but my father said, “You know Vin, I’ve traveled around the world. “I’ve been to India, I’ve been to Russia, “I’ve been to China, I’ve been all, I’ve been “all through South America and I’ve realized something.”
“If you really believe in your heart that people by and large are good people, it affects the way that you address the world as you see post in and post out.” – Vin Diesel
I said what? He said, “People by and large are good people.” Sounded pretty simple and yet it meant so much. And, if you look at my Facebook page or if you look at the way that all that positive energy. I don’t think there’s a page in the world in history that harbors as much positive energy as one would see on this Facebook page.
Interviewer: It’s what you put out, too.
And, it’s really that.
And, I say that because, I say that because if you believe that in your heart, and not everybody watching this can say that or is ready to say that or is comfortable with themselves enough to say that. But, if you really believe in your heart that people by and large are good people, it affects the way that you address the world as you see post in and post out. I address the world that in my soul I feel is comprised of good people.
My message would just to be find peace from within yourself. Because once you find peace within yourself with the energy that you get usually is reflected and people get that energy off of you. So, and that’s what I’ve been able to find from being, you know, on the negative energy side as a young artist to a grown man that projects positive and peaceful music, but it still has the energy of a young spirit.
So, it’s all within the same realm but it’s just finding yourself and being able to be within yourself and have peace so that way you could project peace. You know, especially on the internet, you know, you could get pulled into a whole lot of negative energy. I’ve done things where I’ve put pictures up and read comments and then I’ll say something back and I’ll end up arguing with somebody on the internet that I don’t even know.
“Find peace from within yourself.” – Snoop Dogg
And, I’m like you done pulled me all the way out of my skin so it’s like it’s just a point of knowing, you know, your limitations as far as where you’ll go and let people take you out of your frame of who you are. And, like I don’t ever allow nobody to take me out of the mind state that I’m supposed to be in, you know what I’m sayin’? To never let ’em see me sweat, to never let ’em see me deal with adversity where as if I can deal with it.
Ryan: Where does the energy come from, where does the energy come from? I like it.
Hey every day above ground’s a good day.
Ryan: But, did you always have this positive attitude?
Absolutely. My mom actually raised me off of Anthony Robbins.
Ryan: Is that right?
Female Announcer: Ahh.
Yes I would sit in the car going to fifth grade-
“I don’t believe in failure. I just believe in epic learn.” – Pitbull
Ryan: And, you’d be listening to that?
I lived in a neighborhood called Carol City. That’s about 1990. And, we had a ’82 Pinto. And, she said, I went to go touch the radio one day ‘Cause she had that motivational tapes in there. And, she said, “Do you pay for this car?”
I said, no.
She said, “Don’t touch my radio.”
Female Announcer: That’s interesting though. So, he, ’cause if you’ve heard him on tape I mean it’s all about motivation. He does the big seminars.
Female Announcer: Right.
Female Announcer: What do you remember learning from him?
It was very subliminal, you know. It was hard not to listen to so the days that she would take me to school and it was just always, it’s funny, ’cause on A Little Epic for the movie, and the guys wrote,”What’s your most epic”-
Female Announcer: Buffo, buffo.
“What’s your most epic failure?” And, I was like I don’t believe in failure. I just believe in epic learn.
And, so that’s basically what’s it’s all about. It just taught you there’s no success without failure and there’s no winning without losing.
So, since then I never understood it.
I want to highlight this, there’s something that you can do in your own way tonight. You can validate others, empower others, increase the net happiness, the positivity in the world. I mean it could be as simple as your family’s going to have dinner tonight and you go to a restaurant and you see someone do something great. And, too often we kind of just sit back, oh that was good, that was good service.
“When you’re a source of positivity people will just, will just naturally, naturally gravitate to you.” – Salman Khan
Maybe you give an extra tip. You’re at work or you see a colleague who goes above and beyond and you say, “Oh that was pretty good, they did a nice thing.” And, what I hope, and this is something that I tell myself all the time is don’t just sit by and observe it, recognize it. When you see someone do something great, tell them about it. Tell their bosses, tell their family about it. And, when you do that all sorts of neat, exciting things are going to start percolating into the universe.
Obviously you’re going to make that person’s day. You’re going to make their year, you might make their career. I’ve seen it happen before. You probably in some way will make their life. Even more they’re going to start doing that ultra-positive thing more. People around them are going to see the recognition they got for it and they’re going to start emulating it.
And even though that wasn’t your intent, you just wanted to highlight something good that’s happening in the world, people will recognize that you are a source of positivity. And, when you’re a source of positivity people will just, will just naturally, naturally gravitate to you.
Now first of all, let me say this. A positive attitude attracts people. A negative attitude usually doesn’t win you very many friends. Now I don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings, but I just want to throw this out for you to think about.
Everybody does not want to just hear your problems all the time. Now, it’s great to have a good friend that you can share with but you don’t have to share and share and share and share and share and share and share and share and share and share. And, then when you wear that one out go find another one and share and share and share and share and share and share.
“A positive attitude attracts people. A negative attitude usually doesn’t win you very many friends.” – Joyce Mayer
So, if you have a habit of just talking about your problems all the time, it’s time to make a new habit. And, that is to find something good to talk about. And, I’ll just throw this out for good measure too. Your friends don’t want to just hear you talk about yourself all the time.
I think everybody has crazy moments of of self-doubt and I think that an element of that is probably quite important. It’s about creative visualization and challenging yourself but always staying very positive.
“You should definitely not waste too much time being negative in any way.” – Victoria Beckham
But there’s nothing wrong with having a second little person, you know, sitting on your shoulder, you know, making sure that you are remaining humble and that you’ll be, that you’re remaining appreciative of everything that you have and everything that you’ve achieved. But you should definitely not waste too much time being negative in any way. It’s about positive thinking, positive energy, and fighting if you need to fight.
The Notorious B.I.G.
“Negativity just brings failure” – The Notorious B.I.G.
I’m just trying to just be that straight dude. I done went through so much, you know, being in the streets or whatever. I done been through so much. My mom’s done been through so much. It feel good to just have her at ease, you know, to know her son is cool and hangin’ in the streets doing no wrong. He tryin’ to make it happen. I got to stay on the positive vibe. All my people got to us there in a positive vibe, you know. And, negativity just brings failure, you know. And, we ain’t trying to fail in this game. We trying to succeed.
I remember all the bad and I remember all the good, though. That’s the important thing. You can’t shake the bad It’s like you talk to a hockey player, man, they’ll tell you every goal they miss but they can’t remember the ones they had a good time. But, you remember the that you miss on.
And, you know, it’s the negative sticks with us. Negative floats right to the surface because it kind of allows us to open a dialogue with ourselves about incredulity or maybe I’m not good enough. It allows you to kind of like wallow in self-esteem issues and whatnot. We rarely hear the good. We can’t hear the good. We’re not programmed for it. And, I can’t tell you how many times people have said wonderful things to me in print, in real life and I couldn’t hear it ’cause I’m just listening to this asshole over here tell me how terrible I am at my job.
And, so you know it sticks with you. You have to train yourself. And maybe if you’re smart from the jump you realize before you even start down the path, that it doesn’t matter what anybody says. The game is always on your stick. I’m sorry I use very trite and tired hockey metaphors. And, that’s where I am in my life. The game is always on your stick and nobody can take it off and tell you differently.
“Negative floats right to the surface because it kind of allows us to open a dialogue with ourselves about incredulity or maybe I’m not good enough.” – Kevin Smith
There’s a dude in the stands will tell you you’re doing it wrong. They will always tell you that because critics are people that know where they’re going they just don’t know how to drive the car. And so, of course, they’ll tell you how to drive the car every step of the way. But, don’t listen to that. And, I’m not saying don’t listen to critics. Critics’ll fucking kill ya. I’m just saying don’t listen to anybody that says don’t or anybody that’s like the negative going to be there.
Try to lend an ear to the positive. And, that’s something that I really have to train and try to do over my lifetime. ‘Cause I don’t know why, I’m just pre-disposed to hear and believe negative. And, it’s a nice thing when step up and say beautiful things about the work you do. And, that’s what you got to remember.
You know, it’s like being in a room with this many people who like sit there and groove on it and kind of they want to be there. Like we showed this movie in Sundance first time and it was nice but it wasn’t like this ’cause at Sundance you got a lot of industry sitting there like this. You can’t break through that.
“Critics are people that know where they’re going they just don’t know how to drive the car” – Kevin Smith
Woman: Amuse me
Exactly, who could get through folded arms, man? It’s just. So, you know, you’re going to encounter lots of that. And, sometimes you see it even in Q&A. It’s in the audience. You let your eyes go some place else. Find that who’s like, ’cause that’s who you’re playing to you know, and don’t let the…
I’m telling you, I do regret how much time I wasted, especially now that I know I’m finishing my it, I’m like, I feel like Schindler at the end of Schindler’s List. It’s just like this ring could have saved so many lives. Like if I had just ignored this sh – and did this sh instead. Concentrated on creating rather than whining or bitching or something like that. I’d have so much more to show for my career. But, don’t let that trap you, man.
Don’t let saying to throw you off your game. They’re going to say. And, you know what they’re right, they’re absolutely right. Everything they say, every horrible thing they say about your work they’re absolutely right, they’re not lying, that’s how they feel. But, make sure you listen to the other people who say all the good, who say exactly what you want to know, who say exactly what you’re begging to hear, what you dreamed about hearing when you wrote that one line years prior. Don’t forget to give them the time of day too. We spend so much time focusing on the bitchers and the negative people. Give a lot of attention to the people that like it ’cause that’s why you’re doing it, that’s why you’re there.
All my life I have sought to understand the universe and find answers to these questions. I have been very lucky that my disability has not been a serious handicap. Indeed it has probably given me more time than most people to pursue the quest for knowledge.
Interviewer: Mr. Hitchcock, what is your definition of happiness?
A clear horizon, nothing to worry about on your plate only things that are creative and not destructive. And, that’s within yourself. Within me I can’t bear quarreling, I can’t bear feelings between people. I think hatred is wasted energy. And, it’s all non-productive.
As I’m very sensitive, a sharp word said by, say, a person who has a temper, if they’re close to me, hurts me for days. I know we’re only human. We do go in for these various emotions, call them negative emotions.
“(Happiness) – A clear horizon, nothing to worry about on your plate only things that are creative and not destructive.” – Alfred Hitchcock
But, when all these are removed and you can look forward and the road is clear ahead and now you’re going to create something. I think that’s as happy as I would ever want to be.
Evan: Thank you guys so much for watching. I love to know which clip had the biggest impact on you. What are you going to take from this video that you’re going to immediately apply to your life or your business somehow? Leave it down in the comments below and I’m going to join in the discussion.
I also want to give a quick shout out to Shine. Sandra, thank you so much for picking up a copy of my book Your One Word and making that awesome graphic around it. I really, really, really appreciate it.
So, thank you guys again for watching. I believe in you. I hope you continue to believe in yourself and whatever your one word is. Much love. I’ll see you soon.
Here’s a very simple thing you can do to reprogram your mind. Create a sheet of two simple things, very simple things. I want you to write five questions down that you’re going to ask yourself three or four times a day. Five questions that are positive for yourself to do every day. You’re going to wake up in the morning, you’re going to read these questions to yourself, you’re going to answer ’em. You’re going to read ’em, you’re going to answer ’em every morning, then at lunch read the questions, answer ’em. At night, read the questions, answer ’em.
These can be questions like what can I feel incredibly grateful for right now? How could I surprise or flirt with somebody right now? How could I have fun right now? Positive things like that, right? How could I demonstrate love or excellence right now? Ask these questions in the morning, ask ’em in the afternoon, ask ’em at night. By asking these positive questions over and over, I mean, you just do this for 30 days, you’re going to recognize a total shift in your life.
“People won’t do the discipline. They are so frustrated with their mind because they haven’t done the conscious discipline to reprogram it.” – Brendon Burchard
Just simple questions but you’re giving them weight by focusing on them three times during the day. You’re having duration by focusing on it three times during the day over 30 days. Your mind starts to re-shift its gears to give automatic ease to answering those questions and living in that mindset versus an undirected, unconscious mindset. Second thing on that sheet or those things you can do five questions first. Second thing I want you to do is come with three words to describe your ideal self.
Just three words, you know. Mine are, for example, present, excited, and bold. So, I’m going to focus on those questions three times a day as well. What I do is I put ’em on my iPhone and they come up as an alarm three different times during the day. Just my phone buzzes and those words are there and I’m like oh right, I’m that guy. I got to focus on being that guy versus whatever, I might be in a bad mood, I’m like ahh! You know, completely detached and then I’ll look and I’m like dude, no I’m an excited person.
Break that thought, get back into this, got it. This is who I am. And, now that might sound so simpy, simple, simpy? Simpy. It sounds so simple, but guess what? People won’t do the discipline. They are so frustrated with their mind because they haven’t done the conscious discipline to reprogram it.
