  1. Interesting post Evan! I just sent it to the CFO of our company. I hope he enjoys it.

  2. Granted, I’m not in a position of hiring; rather, I’m the one answering the questions in the interview.

From my perspective, many of the above questions are total yawners. If you’re looking for rock stars, ask interesting questions that elicit genuine responses. Don’t ask questions that people can answer with something canned or rehearsed. Those lead to misrepresentations of the candidate’s real thought process, experiences and inherent value.

I love questions like, “If you could relive the last 10 years, what would you have done differently?” or “When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up and why?” or “What are you most passionate about?” or “What is your most finely-tuned skill, business or otherwise?” or “What is your greatest personal accomplishment so far?”

These types of questions reveal character. As a branding professional, I believe in the importance of companies finding people who will be strong ambassadors and contribute positively to its mission.

  13. These questions are very helpful in judging the right kind of person for the Organization.

  14. Two thumbs up! I totally agree with Ryan Parker.

A position that is as critical to the lowest ranking on the chain should be sought after by looking into or envisioning a candidate to work for more than a month or two within the organization.

The questions needs to be more like:
“if you were given an idea about Product X what way would you go about it – recommend options”

    or

“Whats one aspect of an organization or process that needs to be fixed and why”

The expected answers will be specific and behavioral based but it gives an idea on how a candidate can think out of the box.
