Today we’re going to learn how to expand your mind.
Hello, Believe Nation! It’s Evan. My one word is believe, and I believe in people more than they believe in themselves, and my sincere hope is that if you see in yourself what I see in you, you’ll be able to change the planet. And as always, if you hear something that really resonates with you, please leave it down in the comments below, and put quotes around it so other people can be inspired.
Expand Your MIND!
Most people are not accumulating wealth. Most people are living in poverty.
Most people are living far below their potential. Not because they don’t have the capacity. Not because they have not been given authority and dominion over everything on the face of the earth.
But most people are living like they’re living because of the fact that they don’t believe they can have any more than what they now have. In the book called The Mis-Education of the Negro, Dr. Carter G. Woodson said, “if you can determine what a man shall think, “you’ll never have to concern yourself “with what he will do. “If you can make a man feel inferior, “you never have to compel him to seek an inferior status “for he will seek it himself. “and if you can make a man feel justly an outcast, “you’ll never have to order him to go to the back door, “he’ll go without being told, “and if there’s no door, his very nature will demand one.” That’s why Scripture reminds us “be ye not conformed “to this world, but be ye transformed “by the renewing of your mind.”
So every day, you have to sell yourself, and get out of your mind those old thoughts, that old belief system. Every day you’ve got to sell yourself on that it’s possible, that you got to put a new mind in you, you got to get out of your mind.
You’ve got to begin to restructure your thinking. Every day, you’ve got to begin to recondition your mind. See many of us go through life making choices, thinking it’s our choices. And it’s not.
Bishop T.D. Jakes
To be anxious is to have anxiety about something that hadn’t even happened yet.
Some of you are so worried about the threat of trouble, you’re not in trouble, it’s just that trouble has threatened you, and the threat of what might happen, what could happen, it’s wearing you down.
Half of the things that you thought were going to happen never did happen, but if you allow those thoughts to dwell in your mind, it will succeed at robbing you of your peace, robbing you of your joy, robbing you of your life, just because you’ve thought yourself into a nervous breakdown.
You thought yourself into depression, you thought yourself into defeatism. The mind is a battleground. The fight is in your mind. So I want to challenge you to waste no more effort wrestling with other people.
Oh, I lost you. I lost you, you were doing real good, I lost you. Your destiny, your future is not predicated on the decision of someone else. You’ve wasted too much of your life trying to change other people’s mind about you.
It doesn’t matter what they think about you. God is not going to bless you by their opinion.
God is going to bless you by how you see yourself. Touch somebody and say, “I believe I’m coming out”. I don’t know how long it’s going to take, I don’t know what I’m going to have to go through, I don’t know what I’m going to lose along the way, but I still believe that I’m coming out.
I’ve been broke, I’ve been busted and disgusted, but I still believe that I’m coming out. I’m locked up in prison, they said I’ll never get out, but I still believe that I’m coming out. I’m coming out, I’m coming out, if I don’t have nowhere to stay.
I’m coming out, if my husband married somebody else. I’m coming out if I don’t have no job. I’m coming out, oh!
The body is very important, but the mind is more important than the body.
You have to visualize what that body ought to look like in order to make it win, because that’s what creates then the will, the will that you need to go to the gym every day, the will that makes you go into the four straps, the will that makes you go beyond.
When you’re doing your 500 pound, reps and the squats and you can’t do another rep, and your body is shaking, it’s the will that makes you go one more time down and struggle up one more time, and since all of this is a mental aspect, that motivates you, that makes the difference between you being in the gym full of joy and looking forward to doing that extra rep.
And looking forward to doing those extra hundred reps in the sit ups, and working past the pain periods, that always the mind, it’s not the body. And so this is why I think the body is very important, but the mind is more important than the body.
You got to get rid of those haters in your mind.
The judgments that you hear and that you accept, you start putting that on other people. So when a hater tells you, ah, man, you can’t do that, that’s because he’s hearing that in his head. Or he’s like, you can lose all that weight, that’s cause he hasn’t lost weight.
Man: And he doesn’t want to. He’s afraid of the work that it will take for them to do it.
And it’s all fear, it’s all hate, you know, it’s a wild, wild mix, and I just, when I’m talking about that, it’s like in your own brain, there are times when I do something so idiotic in front of a group of people, just so I can get used to getting away from, you know, fitting in.
Or whatever, I’ll do some stupid stuff. You know, I’ll just say something dumb, and it’s like, who cares? If I wear something dumb, who cares? If I walk around in a wig, you know, who cares? It’s not, you can’t judge me.
I have no shame. It’s not going to happen. And that is where I started to go like, now I can go. And be free. There’s nothing holding you back.
Here is what I’ve created for my life and anyone I know who’s succeeded.
I’m a 17 year old kid from Azusa, California. With no real education other than self education.
With no background, with parents that did their best, all of them. With no money, but I did one thing.
I love people, and I had an enormous demand I made upon myself and I sculpted my mind and my emotions to get me to do whatever it would take to achieve and to contribute.
But to do that, I did it by using my body and changing my focus.
I did it by putting myself in a peak physiology and using what I call incantations.
Can you train yourself to believe something, yes or no? Absolutely.
How many of you have ever made the fatal mistake of going to Disneyland or Disney World and while you’re there, made the fatal mistake of going to a ride called It’s a Small World After All?
What happens for about a week after you’re out of that damn place?
You’re still singing this thing in your head in 24 languages, right?
Well, let me tell you something. How many of you have things when you go achieve them and this part of your voice goes, ah, it’s not going to happen or forget it?
How many got a voice that sometimes interrupts that good pattern.
What you want to do is train a new one. So starting when I was 17, I started doing incantations.
Not affirmations. Affirmation, you go, I’m happy, I’m happy, I’m happy, I’m happy. What’s the problem? You haven’t changed your what, your what? Your physiology.
If you don’t change your physiology, you won’t get anything. So an incantation is not only do you seek it, but you embody what you’re saying with all the intensity you can, and you do it with enough repetitions that it sticks in your head.
Like, It’s a Small World? Now the conversation in your head is always the same, and it gives you what you want. So use your body and your voice, so 17 years ago, I started doing things.
I was working for Jim Rohn, the speaker. And I was 17 years old, I had long hair, Minestrone soup acne on my face, and I was trying to call on Bear Stearns type of people, and convince them why they should go to this man’s seminar and be more successful.
I was driving a 1968 Volkswagen. That I’d earned at $40 a week as a janitor. The only way I did it was park far from the building, and then go in and i love people, and I believe when I put myself in state, and I was able to influence people that were far more successful than I was at the time.
I would do something that I still do backstage, and I’ve done for 23 years. Because I don’t hope I’m going to be in a good state, I demand it. So I do an incantation, using my whole body.
I say, I now command my subconscious mind to direct me into helping as many people as possible today to live better lives, by giving me the strength, the emotion, the persuasion, the humor, the brevity, whatever it takes to show these people and get these people to change their lives now.
And I would do that, literally driving in my Volkswagen to a meeting in LA on the freeway for 40 minutes. People would look at me, I’m screaming at the top of my lungs. They’re going, I know he’s a serial killer, I know he is.
But by the time I entered that room, when two people meet, if there’s rapport, the person who’s most certain will always influence the other person. And I was totally certain, and they were trying to get revved up in certainty.
Do you agree with this, yes or no? I do another one, because I was poor, I had to change my mindset. I kept doing things, but I never got beyond it. I’d say God’s wealth is circulating in my life, His wealth flows to me in avalanches of abundance.
All my needs, desires and goals are met instantaneously by infinite intelligence, for I am one with God, and God is everything. And I would imagine the abundance in my life, and I would feel so grateful. And yearly, I went making $38,000 a year to making a million dollars a year in one year. There’s a large company that has a slogan that says, That was easy.
A few years ago, a friend of mine sent me their big red button. When you push it, it says, “That was easy.”
I keep by my bathroom sink there on the counter. Every so often, I’ll reach over and push this button. I like to get that phrase down in my spirit.
Cause it’s easy to go through life looking at our problems, focused on our obstacles. Thinking, oh man, this is going to be so hard. I dread dealing with this, it’s never going to work out.
That mindset is not only stealing our joy, but it’s keeping us from seeing God’s favor. When my dad went to be with the Lord, and I first started ministering, it took everything I had to write a message for that weekend.
All my focus, my creativity, my energy. I was pressured, stressed, and when I finally finished, I felt like that’s the last one that I could ever do. And if I wasn’t careful, I was tempted to dread it, and think this is too hard.
I’m not going to know what to say, I can’t do this anymore. I had to turn it around. Father, thank you that your yoke is easy. Thank you that I’m well able.
Thank you that you’ve equipped me and empowered me. I got my mind going in the right direction. I went through seasons of struggle, strain, difficulty, but I didn’t let it become permanent in my thinking.
And one day, I came into this anointing of ease. What once was a struggle is not a struggle anymore. Every week, when I finish a message, I hit this button. Just to remind me that it was easy.
Quit telling yourself, this is so hard. I’ll never accomplish my dreams, I’ll never get out of debt. This is a new day.
The champions mindset that I think a lot of people hear the word champion, they think of a famous sports star, you might think of in the US, you might think of Michael Jordan or LeBron James going and dunking on somebody.
But we think of it differently. We think of it as well, when you get on the field, put everything you have into it. Put every ounce of energy you have on the field. Leave nothing on the field.
And two, when you get knocked down, cause if you’re an entrepreneur, inevitably you will be.
When you see hard times and you get knocked down, get back up. And if you keep putting everything you have into it, and you keep getting back up when you get knocked down, it’s almost impossible to fail.
Have a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing. One of the central principles of my life is that no one knows enough to be a pessimist about anything.
And that each and every one of us when we close our mind to what is possible for us, or what is possible for humanity, closes off the genius that resides and lives in each and every one of us.
Having an open mind doesn’t necessarily mean finding fault with all of the things that you have been taught by others. It means opening yourself up to the potentiality and the possibility that anything and everything is possible.
So having a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing really means finding within ourselves the ability to get rid of a trait that I find so common in contemporary, in the contemporary world.
Do you know that most people that I meet spend their lives looking for occasions to be offended? They actually are out there hoping that they can find some reason to be offended, and there’s no shortage of reasons.
They’re out there everywhere. The way this person dressed, what this person said, they turn on their TV, they hear the news, they’re offended by this, someone didn’t, someone used language that they didn’t like, someone doesn’t share the same customs as you, and people all day long, in fact, if you keep track tomorrow, you will find probably 100 reasons that you can go around being offended.
But a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing is a mind that says, I’m never looking for anything to be offended by. And that whatever anybody else out there has to say, my response to that is, that’s an interesting point of view. I’ve never considered that before.
What is it you’re really after, and is it after, are you after enough for yourself?
Are you limiting yourself based on your current competencies?
A lot of people do that. They narrow their vision or their ambition for tomorrow based on what they can do today, or who they are today.
Without realizing they can develop their mastery, their skills, their competency, their knowledge, their experience. Without realizing they can become a better person, they can live into their highest self.
They can live into the type of person who could accomplish those goals. Who could have those things. So never limit your ambitions based on your current competencies.
Never limit yourself today based on your current inadequacies, because those can be irrelevant tomorrow. The main thing is to have aim in life. To have your own aim, to have your own ambitions. Not the ambitions somebody told you you should have. Or someone told you you’re supposed to be after.
Because that’s how we all get on sort of, sometimes, the corporate treadmill. Or we get on those things, where we just start trying to live a life that’s not even our own, because we’re just going with everybody.
But ambition liberates that. Your individual ambition, who you want to become, what you want to do. What you want to contribute, and the highest forms of all ambition usually come down to your creative expression, your contribution, and your connections to others.
That creative expression, what is it you want to create in this world? And then get your hands dirty and do it, you know, not just create some PowerPoint once in awhile for some corporate thing, but something real and meaningful that you consider art for yourself.
Whatever that is. Even if it is a PowerPoint presentation, right? But to do something that you find artistic and meaningful, that’s our human drive for creative expression.
Then, what about contribution?
What’s your ambition to give and to serve greatly for others?
What do you really want to give back?
Or give to others?
What is it?
And what about connection?
You know, the ultimate ambition and aim to have, I think for a lot of people, is their relationships, to operate and to have a love that knows no bounds. I mean, a love that is extraordinary, it’s amazing.
You can’t improve your relationship with you family or your spouse or those that you serve unless you have in some sense about you, that desire to love or give or connect more.
So today, get clear. What is that you want? And is it big enough for yourself? Not limiting yourself based off your inadequacies, or your competencies, but based on what you truly desire.
Last challenge, take whatever that is that you come up with, and 10x it. Take it by 10 times.
What would be 10 times that admission. Not just because it’s silly, I know, I know it’s kind of silly, but to take that ambition that you initially have which is usually, what we usually want is an impulse based on who we are today, and I just challenge people, no, think bigger for yourself, because you are immense.
You are magnificent, you are powerful beyond your current understandings, so break through that ‘nother level.
Challenge your brain to think even bigger for yourself, even if it’s just as an activity to break the bounds of your current beliefs and behaviors. You deserve something extraordinary in your life, but at first, you have to want it.
Unchain your mind. Unchain your mind from the imprisonment of fear. Unchain your mind where it’s been encaged with doubt. Unchain your mind, loose yourself, let yourself free.
From the binds of average, from the binds of normal. Loose yourself from intimidation. Let yourself free, let your mind go. Shift your focus. Your focus, your intensity, your guide, your everything.
Should be put into the amount, the amount of effort that you’re going to put into that attempt. You cannot fail. You cannot fail if you give 100% of your effort you cannot fail, it is impossible.
There was a lady, I don’t remember the lady’s name, but I remember her act. She came in absolutely last in a marathon. Everybody had crossed the finish line.
She was the last person in the stadium. The lights was getting dark. And she fell down, 25 yards before the finish line. But that lady crawled, she crawled. People tried to rush out and help her.
The medics came out and tried to help her. But she shooed them away. She shooed them away, and she drug herself across that finish line. That is the kind of attitude that I want you to have.
That’s what you focus on. You focus on giving that everything you got within you. Every drop of energy, every drop of strength. Every drop of intensity, every drop of testicular fortitude that I can muster.
I’m going to give it everything I got. What ifs. You always have power over the amount of effort that you put into whatever the you are doing.
Because you know the only mission that I have, the only goal that I have, the only determination that I will make is that I’m going to give this every goddamn thing within me.
Break the goddamn chains. Break your chains. Let yourself be free. Go out there and lay waste. Destroy some. Unchain your mind.
Thank you guys! I’d love to know what did you think, what was the single biggest takeaway that you took from this article, that you’re going to apply to your life or to your business somehow. Leave it down in the comments below.
I also want to give a quick shout out to Christophe Logiste, thank you so much for picking up a copy of my book, Your One Word. And posting it to Twitter, and taking a picture, with your other books as well. I really appreciate the support, man. And I hope you enjoyed the book.
So thank you guys again for watching. I believe in you. I hope you can continue to believe in yourself and whatever your one word is. Much love. I’ll see you soon.
