As a company Director, parent, old (ish) person I like to think that with my years and experience comes wisdom. I certainly believe that "with age, comes wisdom". So I find myself stating to my team, friends, family, customers and my children, that failure will happen throughout life, but that it is how you learn from these failures that determines your future. Aways have a positive mental attitude.
Two quotes that I belive are fundamental to succeeding from Bill Cosby, American Comedian, born 12/7/1937, who did quite well for himself.
"In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure."
"Decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it."
These are well-known concepts/ mind states in the world of sports psychology, of which I majored at university and applied to my sporting career. They apply to business and any task or goal you set yourself. Let's look at a few contrasting examples that take the quotes above as the viewpoint:
Weight loss: I will lose weight. What do I need to do to achieve this? Commit to it. Do not consider failing whatsoever. I will reach my goal.
Winning a new customer: Not every customer will want to use you today, but there is always tomorrow, so give compelling reasons to that customer as to why you will add value to their business. My view is, if I am doing my job right most customers should want to work with us, and once they are, we strive for perfection.
Getting into recruitment: As a business we interview 10+ people each month. I am most impressed when people have previously been rejected during their first interview with us, but take our advice, go and do what we tell them, then come back to interview a 2nd time some months or years later. These people take failure as it should be viewed, as a chance to refine skills and learn what to improve on. This is a determined and success motivated individual.
