Essential Fashion Tips for Male Entrepreneurs

The world of men’s fashion can be one that’s complicated and overwhelming for a lot of people, particularly when it comes to dressing for a business environment. This holds especially true for young entrepreneurs, or entrepreneurs in general. Individuals who start their own business, particularly if it’s in something like the tech field, may wear jeans and a T-shirt to work most days.

In fact, have any of us ever seen Mark Zuckerberg in a suit?

While taking a casual approach can be okay for everyday work, when you’re building a business there are going to be times when you need to dress to impress. Instances could include when you’re attending outside events or meeting with potential investors.

So how do you know what to wear when you’re not used to the world of fashion?

Invest in a Good Suit

If you just have one great suit, you’re doing yourself a favor in terms of dressing for important events as an entrepreneur.

If you put money anywhere, have it be here. You can use this power suit as your go-to outfit when you have important meetings and events, and you’ll never have to give it much thought.

An excellent option is a classy, navy blue, wool suit. This is versatile, and you can also use just the blazer and pair it with jeans in certain situations.

Once you have at least one good suit, you can change the look of it depending on the situation by adding a stylish tie, or a great belt.

Focus on Fit

Entrepreneurs can have a reputation of dressing in a way that comes off casual, to say the least, and a lot of this might have to do with fit. When clothes are too baggy or don’t fit well, it can ruin the entire look of a business outfit.

Entrepreneurs should try to find the right fit that looks sleek and just a bit fitted. If you can’t find the perfect fit off-the-rack, some tailoring can go a long way.

If you’re wearing jeans in some instances that can be fine, but again, make sure they fit well and have a slim cut.

Dress Socks and Shoes

Two other places you should pay attention when you’re a male entrepreneur who wants to dress well are socks and shoes. Dress socks can make your entire look feel more put-together so ditch the white socks and the black athletic socks.

Also, your shoes are important. A solid pair of leather shoes that can work in a casual or dressy situation are best and don’t wear sneakers to any important event or meeting.

When you do buy shoes, make sure you keep them clean and free of scuffs.

A lot of entrepreneurs tend to be creative and incredibly busy, which aren’t necessarily the ideal characteristics for high fashion, but if you’re trying to convince people your business is worth their time, you need to look like you took time on your appearance. Just investing in a few key pieces that you can set aside as go-to's can help you exude more confidence in your next investor meeting.
