Your pet is like your best friend. If you’re like most people, then you can’t stand being away from your pet for too long or else you get a bit lonely and start to miss them. This is pretty normal! We have pets for many reasons. These range from helping us out with stress to just keeping us company when we are feeling a bit lonely.

However, having a pet is not all about what they can do for us. You should also be giving your pet your undying affection whenever you are around him or her. This is because your pet also has needs and desires that they want fulfilled in order to be happy and healthy. Keep reading down below, where we’re going to go through the top eight reasons why pets deserve your undying attention and affection, even when you might not feel like giving it to them.

1. Time

The first reason why our pets need our undying affection and attention is the fact that they have no concept of time. For us, it may not matter that we’re gone for 5 minutes or 5 hours. However, no matter what amount of time that you’re gone from home, your pet is going to miss you. Those 5 minutes might seem like 10 hours for them.

That’s one of the reasons that your pet is always happy to see you, no matter how long you’ve been gone. Make sure to spend as much time as you can with your pet or have someone there to take care of them whenever you are gone for extended periods of time. It’s actually been shown that when pets spend extended periods of time away from their owners, they are more likely to have eating disorders, depression, and anxiety.

2. Distance

There’s another big reason why you should be giving your pet your undying affection. Did you know that pets can track you down wherever you are? There are crazy examples of pets tracking down their owners around the world, no matter where they are. This means that your pet has undying affection for you and wants to be with you no matter what. Why don’t you give them the same love and affection?

3. Health

There is an absolute monstrous amount of evidence that suggests that pets are good for our health in so many ways. This ranges from everything in our physical health to our mental health. For example, it’s been shown in numerous cases that those people with high blood pressure saw significant decreases in their blood pressure when they have pets in their lives. There is also a lowered risk for heart disease, stroke, and any other number of conditions that you might be facing. Your pets are going to be there for you no matter what, many recovering addicts, who fail to gain the trust of their families back, the love and affection of their pets turned out therapeutic to them.

In addition to the physical advantages of having a pet, there are plenty of mental advantages, as well. For example, you are going to be feeling way less stress than you normally would when you have a loving pet in your life. You are also going to be less likely to get depressed or anxious when you pet your cat or dog. Make sure to provide your pet with undying affection and he or she is going to help loads with your health and wellness.

4. Purpose

If you have been dealing with depression or other mental conditions in the past, having a pet can give you a purpose in life where you find none other. Many of the times, we wonder what our purpose is here on Earth. And you might even wonder whether there’s a purpose at all for us being here.

However, when you have another life that you are taking care of and loving, this provides you with a strong sense of purpose. This is why those who are returning from war or have other traumatic events in their past find it helpful to have a pet in their lives.

5. Fitness

Another big reason why you should be providing plenty of love and attention to your pets is the fact that you can get in shape with their help. When you have a dog especially, you are going to have to play with them outside on a regular basis. If you are having trouble getting enough exercise in your life, then this is a great way to change that.

6. Responsibility

Many parents struggle with ways to teach their children responsibility. It’s a pretty big topic that has to be got down at a young age if you want your children to grow up with responsibility as one of their main priorities. What better way to teach them about how to be a responsible adult then having them help take care of the pet?

Taking care of a pet is a lot more than playing with them and loving them. You also have to feed them, give them water, brush them, clean them, and everything else that comes with having a pet. When you get your child to help do this, you are teaching them the importance of responsibility and taking care of those who depend on you.

7. Education

One of the best things that a young child is going to learn with a pet. When a kid is caring for a pet, understanding the cycle of life will become easier. If your child witnesses the birth of their pet (or the adoption), he or she growing up alongside them, and finally the inevitable death of your dog or cat, your child is going to be educated on that circle of life. This is something that they are going to have to learn eventually, so by providing that undying affection to their pet, he or she is going to learn this early on.

8. Bond

Of course, that last reason why you should be providing undying affection to your pet is the fact that there is an undeniable bond between a pet and his or her master. When you spend enough time with your pet and care for them on a daily basis, there is something there that can’t be broken. You will cry whenever they pass away and will laugh when they do something silly. You will start to love your pet like a member of your own family over time.

There you have it! There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be providing your pet with undying love and affection that you would provide to another family member.

A traveller by day and reader by night' is how I would sum up my life. My wanderlust led me to quit my cushy job at 28 and finally embark on a journey around the world. Since then, I have lived in many countries and soaked in as many books as possible during my travel journeys. Among them, the "Book of Mirdad" is still my personal favourite and holds a special place in my heart. My progression towards writing was inevitable and happened quite naturally. I have been writing for a few years now an...
