Enjoy Your Vacation in the Lap of Madrid's Rich Heritage

Madrid is the capital of Spain. With a population of around 3.3 million, it is also the most populous city of the country. It is best known for its cultural icons and cosmopolitan ambiance.

Spring, along with autumn, is the best time to visit Madrid as the weather is pleasant in comparison to the other seasons. April and May are the rainiest months of the year so if you hate dampness, this is certainly not the time for you. Peak season (June to August) is the worst time to visit the city, if you hate crowds and blistering heat. Even the accommodations are not available easily at this time. Winter is a good time to avoid crowds. The weather isn’t too harsh as snow is not common in the area. Accommodations still aren’t easy to get. Cheap tickets to Madrid, however, can be obtained at this time.

Flights to Madrid arrive at the Madrid-Barajas Airport. It is one of the busiest airports not only in Spain but also in rest of the world. Easyjet is one of the cheap international flights available. February is usually the best month to get the cheapest airline tickets. Air Europa, Iberia and Alitalia are some other airlines operating cheap flights to Madrid.

The city is one of the top European destinations as far as museums are concerned. The most famous is the Golden Triangle of Art. It consists of three museums, the most popular one being the Prado Museum. Located on the stylist Paseo Del Prado, it has numerous masterpieces of famous artists such as El Greco, Durer and many others. The other two museums are the Reina Sofia Museum and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. Another museum featuring the world’s finest European art is Museo Del Prado. It is based on the former Spanish Royal Collection.

The heart of Spanish literature resides in Madrid. Some of the best writers of Spanish Golden Century belong to this city. For instance, Lope de Vega, who reformed the Spanish Theater, was born in Madrid, along with Francisco de Quevedo. This city also has the Royal Academy of Spanish Language, a cultural institution dedicated to language planning. Another international cultural institution, the Instituto Cervantes, also resides in the city.

Madrid has a cuisine inherited from other cities of Spain but it is still known for its mouthwatering Spanish delicacies. Cocido Madrileno is the most famous dish of the city. It is a stew made with vegetables along with chickpeas and should definitely be given a shot. The Sopa de Ajo, or garlic soup, is another delicious dish commonly prepared in the area.

One of the city’s major attractions is its unbeatable nightlife. From cocktail bars and live music venues to jazz lounges, flamenco theaters and a variety of nightclubs, Madrid caters to the tastes of all ages. The neighborhoods of Bilbao, Atocha, Moncloa and Puerta del Sol are some of the most famed night spots of Madrid.
