Premium Apple App Store? Mac App Store?

There are rumors that Apple is planning on introducing a “premium” section on the Apple App Store for selling more expensive third-party programs. I think the idea has some merit.

The premium section would purportedly largely be focused on games, giving game makers a channel to offer more in-depth (and pricier) titles. And I still think that Apple may eventually offer a Mac App Store along the same lines.

Imagine, as an example, a site where musicians could get plug-ins, loops, etc., with a special log-in akin to the Apple Sales Web. A similar user interface, but with a design to make it easier to get the software you need.

Such a store would help end users, developers and hardware companies. It would be eco-friendly (no packaging, etc.). And it could be profitable. Not only might Apple take a share of the sales, but companies might want to advertise on the site.

Heck, forget Apple. I’ll start work on the Macsimum App Store. (Just kiddin’, Apple.)
