What Your New Year Resolution Should Look Like

The importance of setting a New Year resolution can never be over-emphasized. This is keeping with the spirit of becoming a better person in all facets of life.

Everybody wants to be better but the only difference between people is that while some people write down their resolutions; there are many others who know what they want to do in their minds.

If you ask me, I prefer the approach of the former group which is to document your New Year resolutions. According to Brian Tracy, a resolution (or goal) not written down can be likened to bullets sitting in a cartridge but which lack powders.

Again, it’s not the lack of resolutions that make people fail to achieve their goals. It is most times due to the absence of a well-structured record.

To get results, you must arrange your resolutions in categories and in the order of priority. Here’s what your New Year resolution should look like.

A resolution wouldn’t be complete if it doesn’t include plans to better your health. It doesn’t matter if you have a good health score; you should be constantly looking for ways to improve your health.

However, you have more reasons to make health resolutions if your health status is poor. For example, you could resolve to replace smoking with vaping, avoid eating junks, stop drinking, and to eat appropriately.

For me, it’s family first and I believe it’s same with a lot of people. Therefore in making resolutions, you should have plans for your family too.

As a parent, you could make a resolution to spend more time with your family and be the best mom or dad your kids could ever have. Spouses should evaluate their relationship over the years and resolve to become better spouses this year.

Personal development

Your level of personal development basically determines how successful you’d become in life. This is the secret of the most successful people around the world. Therefore, it must take its rightful place in your resolutions for this year.

In 2015, Mark Zuckerberg announced that his New Year resolution would be to read a new book every week. He even created a Facebook page tagged “a year of books”, and true to his words, he was able to achieve this goal within the set period.

You can almost not achieve anything tangible if your finances suck, hence the need to make new resolutions bothering on finances.

Are there things you’re doing wrongly that you need to change? Are you failing to maximize your potentials to earn more? You need to have a firm resolve to make things happen and the right thing to do is to list out everything you want to achieve in the current financial year and map out your strategies for achieving them.

Social life

This is one aspect that many people often leave out when making new resolutions. This is a bad omission because the people around you make your world interesting for you.

One important thing that you might want to improve on this year is your inter-personal relationship with people. This involves how you relate with your colleagues at work, friends, and close associates. That’s the only way to live a socially active life.

It’s not too late to make your New Year resolutions if you’ve not made one already. The tips shared in this piece will be enough to create a productive year.
