Today, we’re going to learn how you can stretch your limits.
Hello, Believe Nation, my one word is believe and I believe in people more than they believe in themselves and my sincere hope is that if you see in yourself what I see in you, you’ll be able to change the planet.
Stretch Your LIMITS! – #OneRule
If you going to do what you say you going to do, be what you say you going to be, you going to have to lion me out. That gazelle stuff, I’m trying to tell you. You a gazelle, you going to come up short.
You a gazelle, you not always going to get what you want out of life. You a gazelle, you going to have an average experience. You a student, I need you in lion mode. You a teacher, I need you in lion mode.
You an entrepreneur, I need you in lion mode. You trying to lose weight, lion mode. You can’t do nothing significant in gazelle mode, nothing. Nothing impressive happens in gazelle mode. Nothing happens when you running.
Nothing happen in run mode, give up mode, quit mode, scared mode. Fearful mode, nothing happens. Everything happen in lion mode, like I’m coming to get you. I love it, you all ever seen the one where the lion is just kind of sitting there and she double dutching and all the beasts is running by and they just keep going.
And she just in preparation mode and out of nowhere, no music, no preparation, you just see my man come out of nowhere and just boom, grab one, boom. Boom, rip the heart out. That’s lion mode and you got to get to a place when you start executing.
Somebody just help me out. Last year, the greatest news in the NBA, the greatest story in the NBA last year was what? Greatest story told in the NBA last year, off season was what, Keven Durant left to go to Golden State. Durant like I’m out.
I don’t know where you all come from, but that hurt hard because they supposed to be boys. Look at this picture for a minute. Because if you going to be successful, this is where I need you to go right here. What a pick.
This was the one where you play your boy first game, you and your homie was cool and this is where you emotionally cut him. This is when you cut my man. This is when you see my man and he trying to be cool, he trying to act like ain’t leaving you high and dry, he try to act like the goals and the dreams you all had, this the one where he clapping and you look my man in the face and say you dead to me.
And that’s why most of you will never be successful because there’s some stuff in your past you keep holding onto and you got to get to a point where you ready to grind and you ready to get to the next level. You look at people you used to be closed to and say you dead to me.
You dead. 42 triple doubles? We shouldn’t even be talking about the MVP. Ain’t nobody else, if somebody else make it close to the MVP, the NBA is rigged and I’m through with them. They saw my man at the beginning of the season. I’m talking about, I’m talking about high octane.
They said if you keep doing that all season, what’s going to happen? They said if he keep running himself like that, he going to burn out. My man ain’t burnt out. He don’t like he ain’t close to burn out. But you know why they said it? ‘Cause they can’t operate on that level for that long, so people would try to put they limitations on you.
I can’t do six gigs, I can do seven. We can leave here tonight. You can take me to a church, I’ll give you another hour. You can’t do it. Don’t put your limitations on me. I’m dead to your limitation. Your limitation don’t exist in my world.
Those are your limitations, keep them. Go home, watch them on TV, go home, read the newspaper, go home and look in the mirror. Go home and go to your homeboy and you all talk about your limitations. I ain’t got none. I get off the plane from going to Dubai and get on the ground and I hit it.
And some of you all hold onto stuff you all shouldn’t be holding onto. It should be dead to you. Doggone go do a funeral if you need to. Get rid of that junk. Like bury it, do whatever you got to do. But it’s weighing you down. It’s killing you.
Every day you waking up speaking about it. You shouldn’t be thinking about it no more. It should be dead to you, move on. And move towards your greatness. I forget those things which are behind and I press, I press towards the things. I don’t got time for that no more. It’s nothing personal. I ain’t got nothing against you, I don’t hate you. But I love me.
Oracle’s a very competitive company and I think there are a lot of competitive people at Oracle and I enjoy competition.
I think life is a series of acts of discovery.
And I think we’re all interested in our limits, what we can accomplish in life and discovering our own limits and we might find that in sport, we might find that in business, I think.
We’re always, you know, looking to discover new things and new things about each other and new things about ourselves.
The thing I would say is when you grow up, you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and you’re life is just to live your life inside the world, try not to bash into the walls too much, try to have a nice family life, try to have fun, save a little money.
But life, that’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader. Once you discover one simple fact, and that is everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you and you can change it, you can influence it.
You can build your own things that other people can use. And the minute that you understand that you can poke life and actually something, you know if you push in, something will pop out the other side, that you can change it, you can mold it, that’s maybe the most important thing is to shake off this erroneous notion that life is there and you’re just going to live it, versus embrace it, change it, improve it, make your mark upon it.
I think that’s very important and however you learn that once you learn it, you’ll want to change life and make it better because it’s kind of messed up in a lot of ways. Once you learn that you’ll never be the same again.
The last thing that we want to do in life is become subject to the roles we place ourselves in. You know, we’re all so much, everyone in the world is bigger than the role that they think they need to play.
Basically I think that everyone in the world is capable of living outside the role or beyond the roles that they place themselves in. No matter what it is, you know, you’re not just a dad, you’re not just a banker, you’re not just a brother or a son or a convict.
It doesn’t matter, like everyone is bigger, much bigger, infinitely bigger than the roles they place themselves in and is capable of reaching potential greater than anything they can imagine.
Most of the time people sell themselves short on their goals. If you write down a list. We think we have a ceiling when it comes to our potential and the truth is that there is no ceiling. Don’t limit yourself.
Go out and pursue your dreams. Even if you know nothing about what you’re going to do, go out and do that. Every time you have a self-doubt, just remember that every single successful company goes through a near death experience before they go out and become successful. It is the mindset, so people talk about how people are optimistic or pessimistic, so they look at whether the glass is half empty or half full.
To me that’s really the wrong question to ask. The only thing you as an entrepreneur have to think about is do I want to fill this glass? And the next question you ask is what do I want to fill it with.
It doesn’t matter what it looks like. Your job is to imagine and dream about what you want it to be. The biggest problems are really the social problems and if you can solve them, it’s a massive opportunity. Dream so big that people think you’re crazy and never be afraid to fail.
If you want to make a billion dollars, all you have to do is solve a 10 billion problem, so go out and find a way to provide a fresh water to the humanity. Go out and find a clean solution for energy. Go out and find a solution to every culture.
Find a solution to poverty. All of these are hundred billion dollar problems. So don’t think of them as a problem, think of it as a great entrepreneur opportunity and solving any of these problems will make you a billionaire.
Look at these two men, do you know who they are? Most people don’t. They’re just a couple of ordinary guys, They’re both gone now, but one was an ordinary beekeeper in Auckland, New Zealand and the other a Sherpa guide from over around Nepal. Now there’s Mount Everest. Do you know that for thousands of years, people had tried to get to the top of Mount Everest.
People died doing it, it was believed it couldn’t be done. People tried, but they didn’t know how and so they quit. There’s a closer look at the mountain and where they placed their flag. They planted that flag in the mountain.
Now this is the two of them after they come down the mountain. And you know something, when they started, they did not know how. They didn’t know how to get to the top of the mountain and that’s what stops most people because they don’t know how.
As little kids, we go mommy, daddy, I want this and they say now how are you going to do that? Well, as a little kid, you don’t know how to do it. But they did it. In 1953, on the 29th of May, they were the first two to get to the top of that mountain.
They stood right on top of the world. Do you know there’s been over a thousand people do it since then? I watched a young woman on Canadian television being interviewed, not very big.
She had just come back from going to the top of Mount Everest and a reporter asked her, they said, how does it feel now that you conquered the mountain? She didn’t conquer the mountain, that mountain can’t be conquered. We conquered the limitations that are within ourselves.
And when I think of the future and i think about all the possibilities and living in this age of electronics when we can learn so much and all of information’s right at our fingertips and the opportunities I have, I would hate to think I risk my full potential, no.
And I don’t think you should ever live to the point you’d think well, I’ve reached it now. Then what do you do? You just die and I think many a people die early because they limit what their potential is.
I improve all the time. Through experiences, not race, not just race by race, but in life. You know, I’m always taking all these different experiences, positive or negative, extracting the best that’s out of them, learning, become older and wiser.
I mean I’m 23 years old and I think I’m quite wise for my age, I think. I’ve still got a long way to go. But then when it comes to driving, I excel. I push beyond limits.
When I’m training, I go beyond the pain barriers. I just do everything I can to make sure that when I arrive at the racetrack, I’ve already got two, three tenths on the other guys.
I’m a storyteller. And I, I’m not someone who restricts myself to one thing, ever. I’ve never been that person.
Maybe I have ADD, but I want to be able to do everything. Why can’t we do everything. And especially women, we’re great at multitasking.
So I want to produce, I want to have a business. I’m producing here, I’m going to produce in India, Hindi films, regional films. I want to be able to act in them, maybe not.
You know, there’s so many things that I can do, which I want to be able to explore.
The greatest compliment, I think I’ve ever gotten better than Oscott, better than Grammy, et cetera was towards the end of the last Dark Knight Rises. You know, Bernie was the percussionist that we just sampled.
These guys just played on everything. They are the guys. And there’s nothing they haven’t played. So, my great ambition has always been to go and do just one thing where they go, wow, I’ve never done that before.
I actually figured something. I’m not going to go into the details, but, you know, number one, I got the compliment of going wow, we’ve never done this before and it sounds really good.
Thank you guys so much. I’d love to know what did you think? What was the single biggest takeaway that you took from this article that you’re going to apply to your life or to your business somehow. Leave it down in the comments below.
