Barbara Lang - Advice To Other Entrepreneurs

Do your homework ahead of time. Don't give up on your ideas and dreams but do the necessary planning and research to make sure that your goals are realistic and viable. And continue to do that research and planning all the way along. I take a week at the end of each year to revisit my initial business plan to see if I'm still on track and if not, then why not. I plan out my financials and marketing strategies for the upcoming year based on how closely I succeeded in hitting last year's targets. I keep tabs on my productivity and set myself weekly, monthly and quarterly productivity and income targets and then I figure out what I need to do to get there whether it be to work harder or smarter. Not only does keeping close tabs on my business processes prevent unpleasant surprises from sneaking up on me after the fact, but seeing continuous growth in my company gives me a great sense of accomplishment and allows me to enjoy the work that I do all the more. I have found the small business community in Toronto to be not only a warm and generous group of individuals but an incredible resource of innovative and brilliant ideas. For every "pain" there is a cure and I'm consistently amazed at the wonderful ideas that entrepreneurs come up with to find solutions to those needs. I suggest that Torontonian entrepreneurs take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and services available. Although entrepreneurs often work alone, they should never feel like they are alone.
